XRP Exchange Reserves Hit 11.81 Billion Off Binance
XRP exchange reserves reached 11.81 billion, a 99th-percentile print, but Binance itself sits only at the 30th percentile of its year.
XRP exchange reserves reached 11.81 billion tokens on Oct. 17, a 99th-percentile reading for the past year, while Binance’s own stash sat far from that extreme. CryptoQuant logged the all-exchange stock at that print as Binance XRP open interest closed at $453.0 million, down 15.8% from $538.1 million on Oct. 4.
The usual read is that a fat exchange balance is dry powder for a dump. The second fact in the same tape is that the extra coins are not sitting on the venue whose futures book just got cleaned.
11.81 Billion XRP on Exchange Books
CryptoQuant author CryptoOnchain flagged the split on Oct. 18: 11.81 billion XRP on exchanges ranked in the 99th percentile of the trailing 365 days, even as derivatives positioning on Binance unwound. In the same window, XRP fell from $1.52 to $1.29, a 15% drop on CryptoQuant’s chart, and later held a $1.28 to $1.35 band.
THE OCT. 17 PRINT
- All-exchange stock: 11.81 billion XRP, the 99th percentile of the past 365 days.
- Binance open interest: $453.0 million, down 15.8% from $538.1 million on Oct. 4.
- Long liquidations: $25.7 million on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8, the largest two-day cluster in the prior two weeks.
- Leverage ratio: 0.205 down to 0.170, with funding negative on 6 of the last 11 days.
Coins on an exchange are inventory until they walk into the order book. A high reserve raises the chance of volatility if those tokens start hitting bids, and it does not, by itself, prove that selling has begun.
Binance Itself Sits at a Quiet Percentile
Against its own baseline, Binance’s XRP reserve was 2.67 billion on Oct. 17, only the 30th percentile of its year. CryptoQuant’s note is blunt: the build-up appears concentrated on other venues. That is the part the headline percentile hides.
Five days earlier, the same firm’s venue tape showed Binance and Korean XRP reserves moving in opposite directions. Binance fell from 2.705 billion on Sept. 27 to 2.604 billion on Oct. 13, a drop of 101 million XRP. Upbit rose from 6.39 billion on Sept. 23 to 6.45 billion on Oct. 13, and Bithumb rose from 1.81 billion to 1.84 billion. The two Korean books added about 90 million XRP in that window.
WHERE THE COINS SAT
| Venue | XRP balance | As-of date | Standing |
|---|---|---|---|
| All exchanges | 11.81 billion | Oct. 17 | 99th percentile of 365 days |
| Binance | 2.67 billion | Oct. 17 | 30th percentile of its year |
| Upbit | 6.45 billion | Oct. 13 | Up 60 million from Sept. 23 |
| Bithumb | 1.84 billion | Oct. 13 | Up 30 million from Sept. 23 |
Binance netflow still averaged +9.3 million XRP a day over the week through that print (Z-score +1.13), including net inflows of +22 million and +29 million on Oct. 13 and Oct. 14. Whale volume fell 44% week over week and tokens transferred fell 37%. The activity behind the balances was thinning, not broadening.
The first question on a print this large is whether a few wallets parked the extra coins or a wide set of depositors did. CryptoQuant’s own split already answers part of it. The new supply is concentrated off Binance, and whale tape on that venue was fading as the all-exchange figure peaked.
What the Leverage Reset Cleared on Binance
The futures washout is a Binance story. Open interest there dropped from $538.1 million to $453.0 million in 13 days. Long liquidations of $25.7 million on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 were the largest two-day cluster in the prior two weeks, and the leverage ratio slipped from 0.205 to 0.170 while funding stayed negative on 6 of the last 11 days. CryptoQuant read that as longs being cleared rather than rebuilt, overlapping the mid-October U.S. CPI window.
THE UNWIND WINDOW
- Oct. 4: Binance XRP open interest closes at $538.1 million.
- Oct. 7 to Oct. 8: Long liquidations total $25.7 million.
- Oct. 13 to Oct. 14: Binance records net inflows of +22 million and +29 million XRP.
- Oct. 17: All-exchange reserves print 11.81 billion XRP; Binance open interest closes at $453.0 million and spot sits at $1.29 on that tape.
CryptoOnchain’s line on the Oct. 18 post is the cleanest summary of that gap.
For now, the clearest reading is that leverage has reset faster than exchange supply has.

One unverified candidate in the same note is that holders moved XRP onto exchanges as collateral or for hedges during the drawdown, rather than to sell spot. High aggregate balances, lower leverage and fading whale activity have, on CryptoQuant’s telling, preceded range-bound trading. Direction still depends on whether this supply is sold or withdrawn.
Thirty-day whale deposits to Binance recently hit a seven-month high near 1.6 billion XRP. Gross deposits can look loud while net venue balances barely budge, which is why the percentile on the all-exchange stock and the 30th-percentile reading on Binance can coexist.
The June Playbook Ran in Reverse
When Binance XRP was leaving the venue in June, the same on-chain crowd treated thinner shelves as a relief. Analyst Amr Taha, citing CryptoQuant, put Binance’s balance at about 2.68 billion XRP on June 25, down from 2.78 billion on May 12, a withdrawal of about 100 million XRP, and noted that withdrawal transactions had outnumbered deposits for seven straight days from June 17. XRP was then just above $1 after touching $1.01.
Early October still looked like that tape. Taha’s Oct. 5 CryptoQuant note showed Binance falling from 2.704 billion to 2.631 billion between Sept. 26 and Oct. 4, about 73 million XRP, while Upbit dropped 31.6 million between Sept. 11 and Oct. 5. Combined, the two venues shed about 104.7 million XRP, and whale-sized outflows hit 84.2% of Binance’s XRP withdrawals on Sept. 29.
By Oct. 17 the all-exchange reading was at a 365-day extreme, and Binance itself was back around 2.67 billion, close to the June level that had been sold as a four-month low. The venue that futures traders watch did not go from empty to overflowing. The aggregate did. An empty-shelf claim does not survive a 99th-percentile print on CryptoQuant’s all-exchange tape, even if Binance’s own shelf never made that move.
Offset Bids Are Real and Still Small
Rising reserves do not lock in a sell-off, and three demand pockets are already on the table. None of them is sized to swallow 11.81 billion XRP in a hurry, and two of them are not even bids for the coins now sitting on exchange books.
THE THREE OFFSETS IN SCALE
- Evernorth’s treasury: 473 million XRP already held, about 4.0% of the 11.81 billion exchange stock, with Q4 deployment still ahead and subject to approvals.
- Spot XRP ETFs: about $1.80 billion of cumulative net inflows since launch, with a $2.5 million net outflow on Oct. 16.
- Doppler’s vault: 90 million XRP, about 0.76% of the exchange stock, confirmed above $125 million on Oct. 11.
Evernorth Starts With Counterparties, Not a Vacuum
Evernorth Holdings, the Nasdaq-listed XRP treasury company trading as XRPN, said on Oct. 14 that it would begin putting its 473 million XRP treasury partners to work in the fourth quarter of 2026 with Ripple, Kraken, Coinbase and BitGo. Shares began trading on the Nasdaq Global Market on Oct. 8 after the combination with Armada Acquisition Corp. II. The 473 million tokens are already in that treasury. They are not a bid for the coins now on exchange books unless the firm starts buying more, which the release says it intends to do over time.
We’re putting our treasury to work. We are beginning with some of the strongest institutional counterparties in the industry, and as the XRP Ledger’s own credit markets come online, we intend to be there with capital on day one.
Asheesh Birla, founder and CEO of Evernorth, Oct. 14 statement
Chief investment officer Hugo Jeandesboz, named on Sept. 28 after serving as co-chief investment officer at Coinbase Asset Management, said a treasury has to be managed, not only held, and that the four firms meet a public-company bar. Partnership agreements remain subject to closing conditions and required approvals. Because the first phase runs through Kraken, Coinbase and BitGo, the program can use exchange rails rather than drain them.
Spot XRP ETF Inflows Have Slowed
U.S. spot XRP ETFs have taken in about $1.80 billion on a cumulative net basis since the products began listing in November 2025, per SoSoValue figures carried on independent flow dashboards. That stock of inflows is the demand-side anchor bulls keep citing. The live bid is quieter. Funds recorded a $2.5 million net outflow on Oct. 16, and daily prints in mid-October were often zero or low-seven figures after a 13-week run of positive weeks that last broke in the week ending July 10.
Cash already inside the funds is not a bid for the next billion XRP on exchange books. Fresh creations would be. Those creations have cooled while the reserve percentile has not.
Doppler’s Vault Holds 90 Million XRP
Doppler Finance confirmed on Oct. 11 that its 90 million XRP yield vault had crossed that token count, then worth more than $125 million, with estimated returns near 3% APR. Combined XRP and RLUSD vaults have drawn more than $150 million across 14,000-plus depositors. Those 90 million tokens are coins that left idle wallets for a yield product, a real counter-force, and still 0.76% of the 11.81 billion on exchanges.
18 Validator Votes Still Block Sponsored Fees
Ripple’s trusted validator has voted yes on the Sponsor amendment, the XLS-68 change that would let one account sponsored fees and reserves on XRPL for another while the sponsee keeps its keys. That is a company vote, not a network switch. As of the Oct. 19 signed tally, Sponsor had 11 of 35 trusted yes votes and needed 29, leaving it 18 votes short. Permission Delegation and Atomic Batch are already live. Lending Protocol is also short.
The docs are specific about what sponsorship does not do. It does not send XRP into the sponsee’s wallet. The sponsor covers fees, and the ledger tracks who is on the hook for the reserve. For institutions that cannot hold XRP directly, that is an onboarding tool. It is not a sink for 11.81 billion tokens sitting on centralized books, and it will not become one until validators actually flip it on.
Net flow on CryptoQuant’s all-exchanges metric is the print that would change this picture. A sustained drawdown from 11.81 billion, with ETF creations picking up and Doppler-style vaults still taking coins, would shrink the overhang. Until that happens, the cleaner Binance futures book and the fatter all-exchange inventory are two different markets sharing one ticker.
