Who reads us

IAQABA is read by an international, English-reading audience that arrives from every continent and every time zone. Readers come for news, business, technology, science, sports, entertainment, lifestyle, travel, auto and gaming, in roughly even measure, and most of them arrive with a specific question and stay to read the whole story. No single country dominates the audience and no single section does either, which makes the site a broad, general audience rather than a niche one.

We do not print audience figures on this page, because a number without its definition is decoration. Ask, and we will send what our analytics provider reports for the most recent full month, with definitions attached, broken down by section, device and region.

What we run

Display banner units in and around articles, on the homepage and on section fronts. That is the complete list. The units are filled through the Adsterra advertising network, which handles selling, serving, measurement and billing. If you want your campaign on IAQABA, the route is through that network and its targeting tools; we can confirm our placements and site identifiers on request so you can find us there.

We do not run full-screen interstitials, pop-unders, auto-playing audio or video with sound, push-notification prompts, social bars, pop-ups that must be dismissed more than once, or formats that move the page while someone is reading it. A reader refreshing a story on a phone with a weak signal is exactly the reader the site was built for, and no campaign is worth making that page fail.

What we do not sell

We do not sell sponsored content, native articles, advertorials or branded posts. We do not sell links, guest posts, brand mentions, product placements in stories, or edits to existing stories. We do not sell inclusion in reviews, roundups, rankings or comparisons. We do not accept payment to remove, soften or delay a story. Emails offering to buy any of these arrive daily and each receives the same short reply, which is no.

What we refuse

Some categories are blocked at the network level and will not appear on the site regardless of budget: deceptive financial schemes and unregulated investment products, gambling where it is unlawful for the reader, adult content, weapons, counterfeit goods, malware and software that installs without consent, miracle health cures, political advertising, and any creative that imitates our own design, a system warning or a news story. We also block creative that flashes, screams or shakes. If something in these categories slips through, tell us and it will be removed.

What advertisers get and what they do not

Advertisers get a placement on a fast, clean page in front of a real, international readership, with the network’s targeting and reporting. They do not get to see a story before it runs, to know what stories are coming, to be promised coverage, to be shielded from it, or to have a say in what the site publishes. A company that advertises with us is reported on exactly as it would be otherwise. If that arrangement is not acceptable, the site is not the right place for your campaign.

Direct inquiries

We do not sell directly and we do not negotiate individual deals, so there is no rate card. Questions about placements, site identifiers or the audience data mentioned above go to support@iaqaba.com with ADVERTISING in the subject line. We answer those within a week. Proposals for anything listed under what we do not sell are answered more quickly, and the answer is always the same.

Reader experience comes first

The number of units on a page is capped, the units are placed where they do not interrupt reading, and pages are tested on slow connections and small screens. During a major breaking story we keep pages light even if that means fewer impressions. A site that readers trust and return to is worth more to an advertiser than one they leave, and that is the calculation we make every time.

Standards for creative

Banners must be clearly distinguishable from editorial content and must not use our name, typography or layout. They must be honest about what is being advertised and where a click will lead. They must load without blocking the page and must not exceed the size and weight limits the network sets. Creative that violates these standards is removed when we see it or when a reader reports it, and we report it to the network.

Sales mail and the newsroom

Advertising and editorial are kept apart. The people who edit stories do not handle advertising questions, do not see revenue by page, and are not told which advertisers are running. Sales-related messages sent to the newsroom are forwarded to the operator without comment. Anyone who tries to use an advertising relationship to influence a story will find that the relationship ends and the story runs. The full account of how the site is funded is on the ownership and funding page.
