PEGI Pulled the GTA 6 Age Rating After Cocaine Details
PEGI posted a GTA 6 age rating of 18 with cocaine, decapitation, and sex scenes, then removed the page, leaving screenshots as the public file.
PEGI posted a Grand Theft Auto VI age rating of 18 on October 2, then pulled the page the same day. The 18 badge was the one every mainline GTA has carried. The vanished write-up named cocaine in the inventory, detailed decapitation, and scenes of intercourse, more than Rockstar has put in any trailer.
Storefronts in the UK and Europe still show PEGI 18. The long parent note is what went missing. Screenshots of that note are now the public file.
PEGI Posted the GTA 6 Briefing, Then Took It Down
The Pan European Game Information board, which rates games in 38 European countries, put a Grand Theft Auto VI entry on its site on October 2. The listing carried the 18 mark plus a content-specific write-up that read like a plot and systems brief. By later that day the URL returned “The requested page could not be found.”
PEGI had not issued a public explanation by October 3. Rockstar Games had not either. The 18 label itself did not disappear from PlayStation and Xbox store pages, which had already switched from provisional marks on October 1, 49 days before the November 19, 2026 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
That split is the whole event. A badge parents already expected stayed up. The essay that told them why, in sentences no trailer uses, did not.
THE WEEK THE RATINGS LANDED
- August 27, 2026: Australia lists Grand Theft Auto VI as R 18+, with consumer advice for high impact violence, sex scenes and drug use.
- October 1, 2026: US and other storefronts replace Rating Pending with ESRB Mature 17+. UK and French pages show PEGI 18.
- October 2, 2026: PEGI’s long GTA 6 write-up appears, spreads in screenshots, then 404s the same day.
The pulled page described Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as two criminals pulled into a conspiracy after a failed robbery, working together in Vice City as they sink deeper into crime. That is the same couple Australia’s record places in Leonida when “an easy score goes wrong.”
Cocaine From the Inventory, Anytime
The line that travelled was not the 18. It was a mechanic. Older GTA games have shown drugs, and GTA V lets you use a bong in a safehouse. PEGI’s GTA 6 note put hard drugs in the bag you carry around the map, usable with other people, and usable alone.
Drug use is frequent and prominent with the player being able to partake in drug use with others and to use illegal drugs directly from their inventory. Most notably, cocaine can be carried around by the player and snorted directly from their hand at any time.
PEGI, pulled Grand Theft Auto VI listing, October 2, 2026
That is why the sentence outran the gore. Gore is a camera. An inventory item is a button you can press in traffic. People arguing the game on October 2 treated the snort as the real trailer, then treated the 404 as either a Rockstar takedown or a reason to distrust the text. The copies match each other. They also match what other boards already flagged in shorter form.
WHAT THE PULLED PEGI PAGE LISTED
- Open-world violence: Players can harm civilians, criminals, and police. PEGI called it bloody, with a high degree of realism.
- Heavier weapons: Some arms cause greater damage, including detailed decapitation and dismemberment.
- Sexual content: Nudity, scenes of intercourse, occasional sexual fetishes, and paid private dances in night clubs where the player can move hands onto a dancer’s breasts and buttocks.
- Animals: Domestic animals can be harmed, without the injury detail used on human characters.
- Language: “Fuck” appears often, “cunt” appears occasionally, and discriminatory language shows up in TV shows and on radio.
- Shop flag: Players will be able to buy in-game items, with no further detail in the note.
That is not a PEGI 12 problem. PEGI’s own 18 rule is for gross violence and illegal drugs, plus explicit sexual activity. The vanished page was doing that job in full sentences. Then the job vanished with it.
The ESRB Kept Seven Tags and No Story
In North America the live record is quieter. The Entertainment Software Rating Board’s Grand Theft Auto VI page assigns Mature 17+ with seven content descriptors: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. It also flags In-Game Purchases. It does not publish a long rating summary of the kind it still hosts for GTA V.
Those seven tags are the same seven descriptors as GTA V on current platforms. The difference sits in a missing line. GTA V’s ESRB file also carries Users Interact, the online-play mark. GTA 6’s file does not. That fits Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick telling shareholders on September 17 that GTA 6 is a single-player title due in November, with GTA Online still supported as a separate live game.
HOW THREE BOARDS LEFT GTA 6
| Board | Rating | What it published | Page status |
|---|---|---|---|
| ESRB (US, Canada, Mexico) | Mature 17+ | Seven descriptors plus In-Game Purchases; no long summary | Live on esrb.org |
| PEGI (UK and much of Europe) | 18 | Store pictograms, plus a long write-up on October 2 | Badge on stores; essay 404 |
| Australian Classification Board | R 18+ | Consumer advice for high impact violence, sex scenes and drug use | Live, dated August 27, 2026 |
Read across the row and PEGI is the outlier only in verbosity. Every board that has finished the file has already named drugs, sex, and heavy violence. Europe just wrote it in prose, then unpublished the prose.
Australia Named Sex Scenes in August
The Australian record is older than the PEGI fiasco and still up. On 27 August 2026 the Classification Board entered Grand Theft Auto VI as R 18+, file T26/26341, classification number CLAS-1482296, applicant Take 2 Interactive Software Pty Ltd. Consumer advice is high impact violence, sex scenes and drug use.
The same card prints a story blurb Rockstar has been circling for two trailers. Jason and Lucia have “always known the deck is stacked against them.” An easy score goes wrong. They land “on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America,” inside a conspiracy across Leonida, and have to rely on each other to get out alive. Themes, language, and nudity are marked strong impact. The consumer line is the one that names sex scenes outright.
US copy uses Strong Sexual Content, a wider tag that does not say what is on screen. Australia’s three-word pair, sex scenes, is the first official phrase that does. PEGI’s pulled note then added intercourse and fetishes. The boards are not in conflict. They are in different levels of bluntness.
GTA V’s Rating File Did This First
This is also how GTA V left the barn. In August 2013, weeks before that launch, the ESRB’s GTA V summary told anyone who opened it that players could smoke from a bong, light a joint, and that cocaine use was depicted. It described implied sex with a prostitute with no nudity in those sequences, a topless lap dance, exposed genitalia in a non-sexual cult scene, rare dismemberment, and a torture sequence with a pipe wrench and tooth removal. News sites ran the pot line as if it were the game.
GTA 6’s PEGI note sits in that same slot, 13 years later, with two upgrades. Dismemberment in GTA V was rare. PEGI’s GTA 6 wording is detailed decapitation and dismemberment as a weapon outcome. Cocaine in GTA V was depicted. Cocaine in the pulled GTA 6 note is an item you hold and use on the street. Intercourse, which GTA V’s US summary did not describe as on-screen sex, is in the PEGI sex paragraph.
San Andreas already allowed some weapon attacks to take a head off, so a chainsaw is not a new idea for the series. The word PEGI used is detailed. Combined with “a high degree of realism,” that is the claim people mapped onto the Extended Look footage and decided the marketing pass had sanded the gore down. Maybe it did. A ratings form is not a patch note.
The last time a sex document detonated a GTA launch was Hot Coffee in 2004, hidden animations in San Andreas that drew an FTC warning. A ratings page is the opposite of hidden code. It is the channel Rockstar does not edit. For a studio that has spent years locking down footage, that channel is now the one that talks.
What In-Game Purchases Means Here
Both the ESRB file and the pulled PEGI note flag in-game purchases. In August, Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson, asked during a Kinda Funny conversation whether players would spend real money inside the game, said there was no monetization. Zelnick later told shareholders he anticipated no recurring spending in GTA 6 at launch.
Those statements can sit next to the ratings flag without one cancelling the other. Ultimate Edition extras, a GTA+ trial month on some storefronts, and a later online mode are all purchase surfaces that do not require a cash shop in the campaign. The ratings boards are required to mark the presence of paid items. They are not required to explain the cash register.
PEGI’s drugs rule is simpler. The Drugs descriptor means PEGI 16 or 18, always. GTA 6 is in the 18 band with sex and extreme violence beside it. The purchases icon is the one line in the packet that still has no scene attached.
The Parent Page That Is Now a Screenshot
PEGI’s public job is to tell a parent what is in the box. On October 2 it did that with more precision than Rockstar’s own site. Then the parent page became a 404, which is a strange way to inform a parent. The 18 badge remains. The sentences that justified it now live in screengrabs.
WHAT WE KNOW
- The 18 and the M: PEGI 18 is on European storefronts. ESRB Mature 17+ is live. Australia’s R 18+ predates both by weeks.
- The pulled essay: Multiple matching screenshots quote cocaine from inventory, detailed decapitation, intercourse, fetishes, night-club hands, animal harm, and strong language.
- The launch window: November 19, 2026, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar has not moved the date.
WHAT IS UNCONFIRMED
- Why the page died: No PEGI statement. No Rockstar statement. A studio request is a guess, not a fact.
- Whether the essay returns: The URL was dead on October 3. It may come back trimmed, or not at all.
- What in-game purchases are: The flag is real. The product behind it is not described.
If PEGI puts the note back, it will be a parent document again. Until then the most detailed official account of GTA 6’s adult systems is a deleted webpage that thousands of people saved first. The game still launches November 19, 2026, with the same 18 and Mature badges it was always going to wear.
