Google Pulls Gemini Pro Off the $4.99 AI Plus Plan
Google will pull Gemini Pro off AI Plus on November 13, leaving the $4.99 plan with Flash and storage after Argon stayed exclusive.
Google will stop letting Google AI Plus subscribers pick Gemini Pro models on November 13, 2026. An email from the Google One team says Pro selection in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Search will move to Google AI Pro and Ultra. The $4.99 plan keeps Flash-Lite and Flash, and older Pro chats are not deleted.
The cutoff closes a cheap Pro-access offer that Google had already started to unwind. Free personal accounts lost the model picker on October 9, and Gemini 4 Argon arrived four days later as a Pro and Ultra exclusive.
A Google One Email Sets November 13 as the Cutoff
Google AI Plus is the cheapest paid Google AI plan in the United States, sold at $4.99 a month. It has been pitched with faster Gemini models and 400 GB of cloud storage across Gmail, Drive, and Photos, and the ability to select Pro models was a main reason to pay instead of staying on the free tier.
The Google One team is now emailing those subscribers with a firm date. From November 13, choosing Pro in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Google Search is limited to Google AI Pro and the plans above it. The help page on changes to Gemini model access does not print that November date. It tells Plus users to watch for an email that names when the change hits their account.
We wanted to let you know about changes to the models that you can access with your Google AI Plus plan. Starting on 13 November 2026, the ability to select Pro models in both the Gemini app and AI Mode in Google Search will only be available to Google AI Pro subscribers and above. You will still have access to our latest Flash-Lite model and Flash, built for speed and intelligence. Your previous chats using the Pro model can be continued with a different model.

The email does not change the $4.99 price or the 400 GB of storage, and it does not offer credit for losing Pro. Google says the plan can be managed or canceled at any time.
The Dates That Pulled Pro Off Cheap Gemini
November 13 is the second cut, not the first. Google wrote the new ladder into Gemini Apps Help in early October, then applied it to free personal accounts on October 9, 35 days before Plus loses the Pro picker. Cheap Gemini has been losing selectable models, not gaining them.
HOW CHEAP GEMINI LOST PRO ACCESS
- May 17, 2026: Gemini Apps for users 18 and over move to compute-based limits that refresh every 5 hours until a weekly cap, with Pro models listed among the features that eat that cap faster.
- July 24, 2026: The same limit rules reach users under 18.
- October 9, 2026: Personal accounts with no Google AI plan lose the model picker. Auto becomes the default, and most prompts go to Flash-Lite.
- October 13, 2026: Gemini 4 Argon opens in the Gemini app and in AI Mode for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers only.
- November 13, 2026: AI Plus loses the ability to select Pro models in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Search.
Free accounts did not lose every path to a stronger model. If Auto stays on, Gemini can still send a harder prompt to Flash or Pro. If Auto is off, every reply uses Flash-Lite. Plus users after November 13 are in a stricter spot: they can pick Flash-Lite or Flash, and they cannot pick Pro at all.
Gemini 4 Argon Stays on Pro and Ultra
Google’s own plans page already treated Argon as the line between Plus and Pro. The Plus card advertises Gemini 3.6 Flash and Deep Research. The Pro card advertises Argon for complex workflows, expanded access to Gemini 3.1 Pro, and Tasks in Gemini in select countries.
On October 13 Google said Gemini 4 Argon in the Gemini app was for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. The company describes Argon as a frontier model that answers more directly, hedges less, repeats itself less, and skips clichés, with stronger coding and a chat-to-tasks toggle so Gemini can keep working when the user steps away. Higher-tier models in the picker show a lock and an upgrade prompt, which is how Plus users already see Argon.
Argon answers questions more directly with less hedging, doesn’t repeat itself more than necessary, and skips clichés throughout the responses.

Ultra is the only consumer tier Google lists for higher Argon access in Antigravity, the company’s coding setup. Pro gets Argon in the Gemini app and in AI Mode. Plus gets neither. That split was the tell that a $4.99 Pro seat was not going to survive the new model.
The $15 Monthly Gap to Keep Pro Models
Keeping Pro means leaving Plus for Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month, which is $15 more than $4.99. That Pro price sits next to ChatGPT Plus at $20 and Claude Pro at $20, so Google is lining its real paid Gemini seat up with the rest of the market instead of selling Pro work at $5.
The upgrade is not only a model swap. Pro doubles Plus usage, from 2x the free cap to 4x, and it jumps storage from 400 GB to 5 TB. It also adds YouTube Premium Lite, listed at an $8.99 a month value, Google Home Premium Standard at a $10 a month value, and Google Health Premium at a $9.99 a month value, plus Chrome auto browse in the United States and India.
GOOGLE AI PLANS AFTER THE CUTOFF
| Plan | US price | Models you can select | Usage vs no plan | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No plan | $0 | Auto, mostly Flash-Lite | Standard | 15 GB |
| Google AI Plus | $4.99 | Flash-Lite and Flash | 2x | 400 GB |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 | Flash-Lite, Flash, Pro, Argon | 4x | 5 TB |
| Google AI Ultra | From $99.99 | Same models, higher Argon caps | 5x or 20x Pro | From 20 TB |
Ultra is sold as a 5x plan from $99.99 a month and as a 20x plan at $199.99 a month. Limits are compute-based, so a long chat, a media job, Deep Research, or a Pro prompt can hit the cap faster than a short Flash reply, and the bucket refills every 5 hours until the weekly limit.
Even some people already paying $19.99 have been asking whether that gap is worth it. On Google’s Gemini Apps Community, Diego Rodriguez, a Google AI Pro subscriber, wrote that newer Flash models make the Pro premium harder to defend, especially if Argon feels like an Ultra product.
I’m a paying Google AI Pro subscriber, and I’m increasingly questioning whether the subscription offers enough value compared to the much cheaper AI Plus tier.
Diego Rodriguez, Google AI Pro subscriber, Gemini Apps Community
After November 13 that comparison changes, because Plus no longer includes Pro selection. The cheap plan stops being a cut-price Pro seat and becomes a Flash plan with storage.
What Google AI Plus Still Includes After November 13?
Plus is not being emptied. Google’s plans page still sells it as 2x Gemini access, Gemini 3.6 Flash, Deep Research, extra image, music, and video generation, Gemini in Gmail for proofreading, family sharing with up to five other people, and 400 GB of storage. The November email only removes Pro selection in the Gemini app and in AI Mode.
WHAT STAYS ON AI PLUS
- Flash-Lite and Flash: Google still calls Flash a high-speed model for standard chat, and Flash-Lite a fast model for everyday questions.
- Deep Research: The Plus card still lists multi-page reports in Gemini, which free accounts do not keep in the same way.
- 2x usage: Paid Plus limits stay twice the free cap, with the same 5-hour refresh.
- 400 GB storage: Gmail, Drive, and Photos space does not change in the email.
- Gmail help: Gemini in Google apps on Plus still covers proofreading in Gmail.
- Family sharing: Storage and plan benefits can still be shared with up to five other people.
Google’s model guide groups Flash-Lite, Flash, Pro, and Argon by job. Flash-Lite is for quick answers. Flash balances speed and everyday work. Pro is for harder prompts, coding, and deeper problem-solving. Argon is the top consumer model for complex workflows. Effort can still be set to low, medium, or high on the models a plan allows, and a higher effort setting uses more of the cap. If a paid user hits the limit, the chat continues on Flash-Lite.
Previous Pro Chats Switch to Another Model
Google is not wiping Pro threads. The email says older conversations that used a Pro model can be opened after November 13, but continuing them means switching to a different model, which on Plus will be Flash or Flash-Lite. Gemini also keeps using the model and thinking level you last picked in that thread, so a chat that was on Pro will not silently stay on Pro once the plan no longer includes it.
That is the practical deadline inside the date. Anything that only works on Pro, long coding passes, dense document work, the kind of prompt Google now routes toward Argon on higher plans, needs to be finished, copied out, or moved to AI Pro before the picker changes. Gemini now connects to more than 40 apps, including Instacart, OpenTable, Adobe, and Shopify, and Tasks in Gemini, the mode that keeps working when you leave the computer, is listed for Pro and Ultra in select countries, not for Plus.
Flash may still be enough for mail drafts, summaries, and short questions, which is the test Plus users can run before they spend $15 more. Pro was the manual override when Flash was not enough. After November 13 that override lives on a different bill.
Storage Buyers and Power Users Split on One Plan
AI Plus has always been two products on one receipt: extra Google storage, and extra Gemini. People who bought it for Photos and Drive still get 400 GB, family sharing, and Flash. People who bought it to pick Pro models are the ones staring at a $15 bump, because the model they wanted is now packaged with 5 TB, Argon, Tasks, and the YouTube, Home, and Health add-ons on AI Pro.
WHAT WE KNOW
- The date: The Google One email names November 13, 2026 for Plus users who received it.
- The leftover models: Plus keeps Flash-Lite and Flash in the Gemini app and in AI Mode.
- The upgrade: Google AI Pro is $19.99 a month and is the cheapest plan that still lists Pro models and Gemini 4 Argon.
WHAT IS UNCONFIRMED
- A single global switch: The public help page still says each Plus user should take the date from their own email.
- Credit for Pro: Google has not said Plus subscribers will be paid back for losing Pro selection.
- A Plus price cut: The email does not lower $4.99 to match a Flash-only plan.
Staying on Plus keeps the lower price, the 400 GB, and Flash. Moving to AI Pro keeps Pro models and adds Argon at the same $20 neighborhood everyone else already charges. The $4.99 Pro seat was the odd one, and November 13 is when Google takes it off the table.
