Samsung has announced a new update for its One UI software, which is based on Android 14 and brings a host of new features and improvements to Galaxy phones. One of the main highlights of the update is the AI-powered camera enhancements, which aim to make it easier and more fun for users to capture and edit photos and videos.
One of the new features that comes with the One UI 6 update is the Enhance-X app, which is an extension of the existing Gallery app and offers a range of photo and video editing tools powered by AI. Users can access the Enhance-X app from the Gallery app or from the camera app by tapping on the Enhance-X icon.
The Enhance-X app allows users to apply optimal edits to their photos and videos with a single touch, using AI to analyze the content and suggest the best settings. Some of the tools available in the Enhance-X app are:
- Sky Guide: This feature lets users take a photo of the night sky and see which constellations, stars, galaxies, nebulas, and clusters they captured. The feature uses AI to identify the celestial objects and provide information about them.
- Clean Lens: This feature helps users remove blurriness from their photos caused by fingerprints or smudges on the camera lens. The feature uses AI to detect and correct the distortion and enhance the clarity of the image.
- Slow-mo: This feature enables users to create slow-motion videos from normal videos by generating extra frames. The feature uses AI to interpolate between frames and create a smooth and realistic effect.
- Motion Flow: This feature transforms short videos (60 seconds or less) into long exposure shots by analyzing the scenes and applying a blur effect. The feature uses AI to create stunning images of light trails, waterfalls, fireworks, and more.
- Single Take: This feature, which was already available on Galaxy cameras, is now accessible from the Enhance-X app. It applies AI analysis to videos and picks out the best photos and clips for instantly shareable content. Users can also apply Single Take to motion images and videos that they already captured, so they can make the most of a moment even after it has passed.
Image Clipper: A Fun Way to Create Stickers from Photos
Another new feature that comes with the One UI 6 update is Image Clipper, which lets users clip an object from a photo and save it as a sticker that can be used in other photos and videos. Users can access Image Clipper from the Editor mode in the Gallery app or from social apps that support stickers.
Image Clipper uses AI to detect and cut out the object from the background, making it easy for users to create stickers without any manual cropping. Users can then save the sticker in their sticker library or share it with others. Users can also add stickers to other content by tapping on them in Editor mode or in social apps.
Document Scan: A Convenient Way to Capture and Save Documents
The One UI 6 update also brings a new feature called Document Scan, which makes it easier for users to capture and save documents using their phone’s camera. Users can access Document Scan from the camera app by turning on Scene Optimizer or from the Gallery app by tapping on Auto Scan.
Document Scan uses AI to detect when users take a photo of a document and automatically pop up the edit screen, where users can rotate, align, crop, and save it. The feature also enhances the quality and readability of the document by removing shadows, glare, and distortion. Users can save the document as an image or a PDF file in their phone or cloud storage.
Customization Options: A Personalized Way to Use the Camera
The One UI 6 update also gives users more customization options for their camera settings, making it easier for them to switch between different modes and resolutions. Users can access these options from the Quick Settings menu at the top of the camera app.
Some of the options available are:
- Resolution: Users can easily change the resolution of their photos or videos by tapping on this button. For example, users can switch between 200MP mode and regular mode on Galaxy S23 Ultra.
- Aspect Ratio: Users can choose between different aspect ratios for their photos or videos by tapping on this button. For example, users can choose between 4:3, 16:9, 1:1, or full screen.
- Timer: Users can set a timer for their photos or videos by tapping on this button. For example, users can choose between 2 seconds, 5 seconds, or 10 seconds.
- Flash: Users can turn on or off the flash for their photos or videos by tapping on this button.
- Filters: Users can apply different filters to their photos or videos by tapping on this button. For example, users can choose between original, vivid, natural, or smooth.
The One UI 6 update is already rolling out to Galaxy S23 series in some regions and will be available for other Galaxy devices soon. Users can check for the update by going to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
