Aputure and Prolycht Join Forces to Revolutionize Film Lighting Technology

Aputure, a leading company in film and television LED lighting, has announced that it has acquired Prolycht, a new and innovative brand in the same field. The acquisition is expected to bring significant benefits to both companies and the filmmaking community, as they combine their expertise and passion for creating cutting-edge lighting solutions.

Aputure’s Legacy of Innovation

Aputure was founded in 2005 by a group of filmmakers who wanted to create affordable and high-quality lighting equipment for their own projects. Since then, the company has grown to become one of the most popular and respected brands in the industry, with a wide range of products that cater to different needs and budgets. Aputure’s products are known for their versatility, reliability, and performance, as well as their user-friendly design and features.

Some of Aputure’s most notable products include the Light Storm series of LED panels, which offer high output, color accuracy, and wireless control; the MC series of RGBWW mini LEDs, which can produce any color and hue with built-in effects and wireless charging; the Nova series of RGBWW soft panels, which can create stunning colors and effects with a large output and a compact size; and the Sidus Link app, which allows users to control multiple Aputure lights from their smartphones or tablets.

Aputure has also been active in supporting and collaborating with the filmmaking community, hosting events, workshops, contests, and giveaways, as well as producing educational content on its YouTube channel. Aputure’s mission is to empower filmmakers with the tools they need to express their vision and creativity.

Prolycht’s Breakthroughs in Color Science

Prolycht is a relatively new player in the film and television lighting market, but it has already made a name for itself with its advanced color science and software algorithms. Prolycht was founded in 2017 by Anqing Liu, a Chinese lighting research scientist who graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Smart Lighting Research Center and worked at Philips Lighting Research Center in Boston. Liu also serves on the CIE standards board, which is responsible for setting international standards for colorimetry and photometry.

Prolycht’s flagship products are the Orion series of LED fresnels, which are designed to deliver high output, color fidelity, and smooth dimming. The Orion series features Prolycht’s proprietary ColorTune technology, which allows users to adjust the color temperature, green/magenta shift, hue angle, saturation, and intensity of the light with precise control. The Orion series also boasts a high color rendering index (CRI) of over 95 and a television lighting consistency index (TLCI) of over 97, which means that the light can reproduce colors accurately and consistently on camera.

Prolycht’s other innovations include sensing technology, which can detect the ambient temperature, humidity, pressure, altitude, and orientation of the light; optics technology, which can produce a uniform beam with minimal light loss; and control technology, which can enable wireless communication and remote control of the light.

A New Chapter for Film Lighting Technology

The acquisition of Prolycht by Aputure marks a new chapter for film lighting technology, as the two companies will leverage their respective strengths and synergies to create revolutionary products and services for filmmakers. Aputure’s CEO Ian Xie said that the acquisition reaffirms Aputure’s commitment to shaping the future of film lighting technology, and that he is thrilled to welcome the Prolycht team to the Aputure family. He added that the union promises to enhance Aputure’s competitive edge, particularly in the realm of color science and engineering breakthrough technology.

Prolycht’s founder Anqing Liu said that he is proud of what Prolycht has achieved in the past six years, and that he shares Aputure’s goal of creating value for every filmmaker through innovation. He expressed his confidence that Prolycht’s technology and spirit will live on in Aputure’s future products and technologies.

The two companies have plans in place to ensure that existing Prolycht customers have warranty and repair support for as long as possible through Prolycht channels. They also announced that they will share more details about what this collaboration means for the filmmaking community at IBC2023, which will take place from September 15th to 18th in Amsterdam.
