USA Swimming, the national governing body for the sport of swimming, has recently released its 2024 national events calendar. The calendar features some of the most prestigious and competitive meets in the country, as well as some new additions and changes.
Olympic Trials Return to Omaha
One of the highlights of the 2024 calendar is the return of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming to Omaha, Nebraska. The event will take place from June 23 to July 1 at the CHI Health Center Omaha, which has hosted the Trials since 2008. The Trials will determine the U.S. roster for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
The Trials are expected to attract more than 1,000 swimmers and thousands of fans, as well as national and international media coverage. The event will also feature fan activities, entertainment, and interactive exhibits.
TYR Pro Swim Series Expands to Six Stops
Another major change in the 2024 calendar is the expansion of the TYR Pro Swim Series to six stops. The series, which showcases some of the best swimmers in the world, will kick off in November 2023 in Greensboro, North Carolina, and conclude in May 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The other four stops of the series are Knoxville, Tennessee (January), San Antonio, Texas (February), Mission Viejo, California (March), and Richmond, Virginia (April). The series will offer prize money, world-class competition, and opportunities for swimmers to qualify for national and international teams.
National Championships Move to Long Course Format
The 2024 calendar also features a change in the format of the national championships. The Phillips 66 National Championships, which serve as the selection meet for various international teams, will move from a short course yards format to a long course meters format. The event will be held in December 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia.
The change is intended to align the national championships with the international calendar and provide more long course racing opportunities for swimmers. The event will also include the Speedo Junior National Championships, which will also be held in long course meters.
Other Events on the Calendar
The 2024 calendar also includes several other events for swimmers of different ages and levels. Some of these events are:
- The Toyota U.S. Open, which will be held in November 2024 in Greensboro, North Carolina. The event will feature top swimmers from across the country and offer prize money and qualifying standards for national teams.
- The Speedo Sectionals, which will be held in March and July 2024 at various locations across the country. The events will provide regional competition and qualifying opportunities for swimmers.
- The Futures Championships, which will be held in August 2024 at four locations: Huntsville, Alabama; Santa Clarita, California; Geneva, Ohio; and Richmond, Virginia. The events will offer a higher level of competition for swimmers who have not qualified for national meets.
- The USA Swimming Open Water National Championships, which will be held in April 2024 in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. The event will determine the U.S. roster for the 2024 FINA World Open Water Swimming Championships.
