Oppo has announced its latest A-series smartphone in China, the Oppo A2. The device is a rebranded version of the Oppo A79 that was launched in India last week. The Oppo A2 offers a 90Hz display, a 50MP rear camera, a Dimensity 6020 chipset, and up to 512GB of storage. Here are the details of this mid-range smartphone that aims to compete with other devices in its segment.

The Oppo A2 features a 6.72-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. The display has a punch-hole cutout on the top that houses an 8MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. The screen also supports HDR10 and has a peak brightness of 600 nits. The Oppo A2 has a thin and light design, measuring 7.99mm in thickness and weighing 193 grams. It also has an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance.

A 50MP Main Camera and an 8MP Ultra-Wide Lens

On the back, the Oppo A2 sports a dual-camera setup that consists of a 50MP main sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. The main camera has an aperture of f/1.8 and supports phase-detection autofocus, HDR, and 4K video recording at 30fps. The ultra-wide lens has a 120-degree field of view and an aperture of f/2.2. The Oppo A2 also has a LED flash and a fingerprint scanner on the rear panel.

A Dimensity 6020 Chipset with 12GB RAM and up to 512GB Storage

Under the hood, the Oppo A2 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chipset, which is a 7nm octa-core processor with four Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.4GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. The chipset also has a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU and a 5G modem that supports both SA and NSA networks. The Oppo A2 comes with 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and two storage options: 256GB and 512GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The device also has a microSD card slot for further expansion.

A 5,000mAh Battery with 33W Fast Charging

The Oppo A2 packs a 5,000mAh battery that supports 33W SuperVOOC fast charging via a USB-C port. The device can charge from 0 to 100% in about an hour, according to Oppo. The Oppo A2 also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual speakers, dual SIM support, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and GPS. The device runs on Android 13 with ColorOS 13.1 on top, which offers features like Dark Mode, Game Space, Smart Sidebar, and more.

Pricing and Availability

The Oppo A2 is available in three color options: black, green, and purple. The device is priced at CNY 1,699 ($232) for the 12GB/256GB variant and CNY 1,799 ($246) for the 12GB/512GB variant. The device will go on sale in China from November 6. There is no word on the global availability of the Oppo A2 as of now.
