This state-of-the-art stadium, set to be a proposed venue for the 2034 World Cup, features a retractable roof, pitch, and an LED wall that opens to reveal stunning views of the Tuwaiq cliff. The stadium’s unique design and technological advancements are poised to revolutionize the traditional stadium experience, making it a must-visit destination for sports and entertainment enthusiasts.

The Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Stadium is a testament to architectural innovation and futuristic design. The stadium’s retractable roof and pitch, combined with a large LED wall, offer unparalleled versatility, allowing the space to transform into different event modes within hours. This feature enables the stadium to host a wide range of events, from football matches to concerts and laser shows.

The stadium’s exterior is formed by a collection of modular cubes that appear to rise out of the cliffside in a series of staggered blocks. These cubes are covered in digital screens, creating a massive digital canvas that interacts with users at different scales. The design seamlessly integrates with the natural landscape, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

Populous’ senior principal, Rhys Courtney, emphasized the stadium’s role in transcending traditional stadium typology. The design aims to create an immersive experience for visitors, with the LED wall serving as a portal to live event broadcasts and high-definition films. This innovative approach ensures that each visit to the stadium offers a unique and memorable experience.

Enhancing the Qiddiya Entertainment District

The Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Stadium is set to become the focal point of the Qiddiya entertainment district, a new urban area dedicated to sports and entertainment. Located just 40 minutes from Riyadh, the stadium is anticipated to draw visitors from across the globe, further enhancing Qiddiya’s philosophy of the Power of Play.

The stadium’s strategic location atop the 200-meter-high Tuwaiq cliff offers visitors stunning views of Qiddiya City. The surrounding area will feature towers of sports and entertainment spaces connected by an internal street, also covered by LED screens. This integrated design ensures that visitors have direct and convenient access to a variety of entertainment options, including shopping, dining, and hotel accommodations.

The stadium’s climate-controlled facilities and eco-friendly cooling lake, which uses rainwater capture to pre-cool the air conditioning system, highlight the project’s commitment to sustainability. These features not only enhance the visitor experience but also reduce energy consumption, making the stadium an environmentally responsible development.

A Hub for Sports and Entertainment

The Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Stadium is designed to host a wide range of sports and entertainment events, making it a versatile and dynamic venue. With a seating capacity of 45,000, the stadium is fully compliant with FIFA requirements for club and international competitions. It will serve as the home ground for Saudi Pro League football clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr and is one of the proposed venues for the Kingdom’s 2034 FIFA World Cup bid.

In addition to football, the stadium is poised to host some of the region’s biggest sports events, including the Saudi King Cup, the Asian Cup, and possibly the 2034 Asian Games.
