Polestar 4 EV to feature Mobileye’s hands-off autonomous driving technology

Polestar, the performance electric vehicle brand from the Geely Group, has announced that it will collaborate with Mobileye, a leader in autonomous driving technology, to bring hands-off and eyes-off autonomous driving to its upcoming Polestar 4 EV. The Polestar 4, which went on sale in China on August 25, 2023 and will go global in 2024, is a sleek SUV coupe that will feature Mobileye’s Chauffeur platform, which will be manufactured and integrated by ECARX, a Chinese technology company.

Mobileye Chauffeur: a safer and more convenient way to enjoy autonomous driving

Mobileye Chauffeur is an advanced autonomous vehicle technology platform that will enable Polestar 4 drivers to enjoy hands-off and eyes-off, point-to-point autonomous driving on highways, as well as eyes-on automated driving for other environments, in identified operational design domains. Mobileye Chauffeur will use Mobileye’s EyeQ6 system-on-chip, RSS-based driving policy, 360-degree surround camera system, and REM-powered Mobileye Roadbook map, as well as next-generation active radar and lidar sensors, to provide the additional sensing layer needed for eyes-off autonomous operation.

Mobileye Chauffeur is the successor of Mobileye’s SuperVision platform, which will be featured in the Polestar 4 from the start. SuperVision is an advanced driver assistance system that offers lane centering, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, automatic emergency braking, and other features. SuperVision also builds a bridge to fully autonomous driving by allowing drivers to switch to Chauffeur mode when it becomes available.

Mobileye Chauffeur is the result of two decades of experience in applying artificial intelligence in more than 150 million vehicles worldwide. Mobileye’s president and CEO Prof. Amnon Shashua said: “We congratulate Polestar on innovating in consumer vehicles through this program and are proud of our continuing work with the Geely Group in adopting our technology portfolio. Mobileye Chauffeur will offer consumers a safer, accessible way to enjoy autonomous vehicles as the next revolution in personal transportation.”
