Nanoleaf, a company known for its smart lighting products, has launched a new set of smart holiday string lights that can integrate with Matter-compatible smart home platforms like HomeKit. The Nanoleaf Essentials Matter Smart Holiday String Lights are designed to create a festive atmosphere in your home with 16 million colors, custom scenes, and music sync.
What are Nanoleaf’s Smart Holiday String Lights?
The Nanoleaf Smart Holiday String Lights are two 10-meter light strands that include 250 addressable LEDs. They can be set to different colors and shades of white, ranging from 2700 to 6500K. The lights have a brightness of 250 lumens and are IP44 water-resistant, which means they can be used indoors or outdoors.
The lights can be controlled with the Nanoleaf app, the Home app, or with Siri voice commands. The Nanoleaf app offers customizable color palettes and light animations, as well as an option to sync the lights with music. There are also nine preset scenes, such as Holiday Magic and Crackling Fireplace, that can be accessed in the app or with the manual controller that comes with the lights.
The manual controller also has a microphone built-in, so you can have your lights dance to your holiday playlists. You can pair multiple string lights in the app and share the same scene across them all.
How do Nanoleaf’s Smart Holiday String Lights work with Matter?
Matter is a new smart home standard that aims to make smart devices more compatible and interoperable across different platforms and brands. Nanoleaf’s Smart Holiday String Lights are Matter-enabled, which means they can work with any Matter-compatible platform, such as Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings.
To use the lights with Matter, you will need a Matter-compatible smart home hub, such as the HomePod mini or the recent Apple TV 4K. You can then set up the lights with your preferred platform and use it to automate them with schedules and routines and to enable voice control.
However, Matter does not currently support addressable lighting, which means you will need to use the Nanoleaf app for the more advanced features, such as custom scenes and music sync. Nanoleaf says it is working with the Matter Working Group to bring these features to Matter in the future.
How much do Nanoleaf’s Smart Holiday String Lights cost and where can I buy them?
The Nanoleaf Smart Holiday String Lights cost $120 and are available for pre-order from the Nanoleaf website. Orders will begin shipping in mid-October.
Nanoleaf says it is also planning to launch more smart lighting products that are compatible with Matter in the coming months.
