Have you ever wondered what it would be like to chat with your favorite celebrities? Or maybe you just need someone to talk to when you are feeling lonely or bored. Well, now you can do both with DearMate, a new app that lets you chat with over 100 types of AI personas inspired by celebrities.
What is DearMate?
DearMate is a mobile app developed by TUNiB, a South Korean generative artificial intelligence (AI) startup. The app was launched on Thursday after an open beta phase of around six months. Through DearMate, users can freely choose and communicate with chatbots according to their tastes and purposes. Over 100 types of chatbots are provided each with its own persona to offer a range of conversational styles.
The app uses a custom model based on the powerful Llama 2 large language model that TUNiB released for public commercial use in July. The chatbots can generate both text responses and photo-realistic images, and have access to real-time information via a partnership with Microsoft’s Bing search engine.
Who are the AI personas?
The AI personas are styled in the voices of celebrities like Charli D’Amelio, Snoop Dogg, and Tom Brady, according to a company blog post. Women’s soccer star Sam Kerr, for example, served as the inspiration for Sally, a bot described by TUNiB as a “free-spirited friend who’ll tell you when to take a deep breath.”
The app also features chatbots based on fictional characters, such as Harry Potter, Elsa from Frozen, and Iron Man. Users can also create their own custom chatbots by choosing their name, gender, age, personality, and appearance.
Why did TUNiB create DearMate?
TUNiB said that the app was created to provide users with empathy and fun-filled conversations. The company believes that generative AI can help people overcome loneliness and boredom, especially during the pandemic.
“DearMate is not just a simple chatbot app, but a platform that connects people with AI,” said Lee Seung-hoon, the CEO of TUNiB. “We hope that DearMate will become a good friend for many people who need someone to talk to.”
How can you use DearMate?
DearMate is available for download on Google Play Store. Users can sign up with their email or phone number, and choose their preferred language from English, Korean, Japanese, or Chinese. Users can then browse through the list of chatbots and start chatting with them in their own conversation space.
Users can also follow the chatbots on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, where they can see their daily posts and stories. Users can also send gifts to their chatbot friends using virtual coins that can be purchased or earned through various activities.
