Samsung launches Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro to celebrate 20 years of innovation

Samsung Electronics has unveiled a new limited edition phone that pays tribute to its legacy of innovation. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro is inspired by the SGH-E700, a popular phone that Samsung released in 2003 with a built-in antenna and a clamshell design.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro features the same indigo blue and silver color scheme that adorned the SGH-E700, which was nicknamed the ‘Benz Phone’ for its luxurious design and performance. The new phone also offers a UX design reinterpretation of 2000s pixel graphics and an exclusive animation on the Flex Window that portrays a cityscape with a touch of nostalgia.

The Flex Window is one of the innovative features of the Galaxy Z Flip 5, which allows users to customize their display and use different apps on the top and bottom halves of the screen. The phone also has a larger cover screen than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 4, and supports FlexCam selfies and customization.

Samsung’s history of innovation in mobile phones

Samsung Electronics has been providing innovative mobile phones in the market for decades. In addition to the SGH-E700, the company has launched a series of other revolutionary mobile products, such as:

  • The watch phone SPH-WP10 in 2000, which was the first phone to be worn on the wrist
  • The TV phone SCH-M220 in 2001, which was the first phone to receive terrestrial TV broadcasts
  • The camera phone SCH-V200 in 2002, which was the first phone to have a built-in camera with optical zoom

Each product earned acclaim for its innovative new features that pushed the boundaries of what was possible at that time.
