Samsung’s new tablet with Helio G99 chipset spotted on GeekBench

Samsung is gearing up to launch a new series of mid-range tablets called the Galaxy Tab A9. The series is expected to include two models, the Galaxy Tab A9 and the Galaxy Tab A9+ 5G. While the latter will offer 5G connectivity, the former will be a 4G LTE device. The Galaxy Tab A9 has recently appeared on the GeekBench benchmarking platform, revealing some of its key specifications.

Galaxy Tab A9 features a MediaTek Helio G99 processor

According to the GeekBench listing, the Galaxy Tab A9 has the model number SM-X115 and runs on Android 13 out of the box. The device is powered by a chipset that has six CPU cores clocked at 2.00GHz and two CPU cores clocked at 2.20GHz. The SoC also includes a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. These specifications suggest that the device is equipped with the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, which is a gaming-oriented processor that was launched in August 2023.

The Helio G99 chipset is based on a 12nm process and supports up to 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. It also supports up to 90Hz refresh rate displays, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, and FM radio. The chipset also features MediaTek’s HyperEngine 2.0 technology, which enhances the gaming performance and experience by optimizing power efficiency, network latency, resource management, and picture quality.

The Galaxy Tab A9 has 4GB of RAM according to the GeekBench listing, but it is possible that there will be other variants with higher memory configurations. The device scored 735 points in the single-core test and 1766 points in the multi-core test on GeekBench.

Galaxy Tab A9 packs a 5,100mAh battery with 15W fast charging

Apart from the processor and RAM, the Galaxy Tab A9’s GeekBench listing does not reveal any other details about the device. However, based on previous reports, we know that the tablet will have a 5,100mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging. The device has also received certifications from BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) and TDRA (Telecommunications Regulatory Authority), indicating that it will be launched in India and other markets soon.

As for the Galaxy Tab A9+ 5G, it is said to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chip, which is a mid-range 5G processor that was announced in June 2023. The Snapdragon 695 chip is based on an 8nm process and supports up to 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.1 storage. It also supports up to 120Hz refresh rate displays, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, GPS, and FM radio. The chip also features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Elite Gaming technology, which offers enhanced graphics rendering and audio quality for gaming.

The Galaxy Tab A9+ 5G will also have 4GB of RAM according to previous reports, but it may also come in other variants with higher memory options. The device will have a larger battery than the Galaxy Tab A9, with a capacity of 7,040mAh and support for 15W fast charging. The device will run on Android 13 out of the box as well.

The Galaxy Tab A9+ 5G’s display size and resolution are also unknown at the moment, but it may have an LCD panel with a higher refresh rate than the Galaxy Tab A9. The tablet may also have similar camera specifications as the Galaxy Tab A9, with a single rear camera and a front-facing camera. Samsung may launch the Galaxy Tab A9 series later this month or in October

Samsung has not officially announced the Galaxy Tab A9 series yet, but the multiple certifications and benchmark listings suggest that the launch is imminent. The company may unveil the new tablets later this month or in October in different markets around the world.

The pricing and availability details of the Galaxy Tab A9 series are also not known yet, but they are expected to be affordable and competitive in the mid-range segment. The tablets may compete with other devices such as the Lenovo Tab P11 series, the Huawei MatePad series, and the Xiaomi Mi Pad series.
