iQOO 12 Pro to feature a 64MP periscope camera, leak reveals

The iQOO 12 Pro, the upcoming flagship smartphone from the Vivo sub-brand, is expected to have a major upgrade in its camera department. According to a recent leak, the device will feature a 64MP periscope camera that will offer enhanced optical zoom capabilities.

Periscope camera with OmniVision sensor

The leak comes from a well-known tipster, Digital Chat Station, who claims that iQOO has tested the OmniVision OV64B 64MP periscope zoom camera. This sensor has a 1/2-inch size and 0.7µm pixels, and it is paired with a 5x zoom lens. The tipster suggests that this camera could be available on the iQOO 12 Pro, making it the first iQOO phone to have a periscope camera.

The periscope camera will allow the iQOO 12 Pro to capture distant objects with more clarity and detail. It will also enable the device to achieve higher levels of digital zoom without losing much quality. The periscope camera is expected to complement the main camera, which is rumored to be a new 50MP OmniVision OV50H sensor. This sensor has a large 1/1.28-inch size and 1.2µm pixels, which will help in capturing more light and producing sharper images.

Other camera features and specifications

The leak also reveals that the iQOO 12 Pro’s camera setup will include an ultra-wide lens that could be a 50MP snapper with autofocus and a 150-degree field of view. This lens will allow the device to capture more scenery in a single shot. The ultra-wide lens could be the same one that was used in the iQOO 11 Pro, which was praised for its performance.

The iQOO 12 Pro is also expected to feature Vivo’s V3 ISP chip, which will debut in the Vivo X100 Pro series. This chip will enhance the image processing and computational photography capabilities of the device. The V3 ISP chip will also support the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which is likely to power the iQOO 12 Pro. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the next-generation flagship chipset from Qualcomm, which will launch in October.

The iQOO 12 Pro is anticipated to have a 6.78-inch curved-edge AMOLED display with a Quad HD+ resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The device may support 200W fast charging and 50W wireless charging. It may run on Android 14 and OriginOS 4.0. The top variant of the device may have 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Launch date and availability

The official launch date of the iQOO 12 Pro is not confirmed yet, but it is expected to debut later this year. The device will compete with other flagship smartphones that have periscope cameras, such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Huawei P60 Pro. The price and availability of the iQOO 12 Pro are also unknown at this point, but it is likely to be available in China first, followed by other markets.
