Hungarian universities rank among the world’s best in 2023

Hungary has a long and proud tradition of higher education and academic research, and its universities are attracting more and more international students every year. According to the latest QS World University Rankings, 12 Hungarian universities are among the best in the world in 2023, with the University of Szeged leading the way.

University of Szeged tops the list

The University of Szeged (SZTE) is the highest-ranked Hungarian university in the QS World University Rankings 2023, placing 551st globally. This is an improvement of 50 places compared to last year, when it ranked 601st. SZTE is also ranked 701st in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2022 and 701st in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2022.

SZTE is a prestigious institution with a history dating back to 1581. It has more than 21,000 students, including over 4,000 international students from 115 countries. It offers a wide range of programs in English, German, French and Hungarian, covering fields such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, engineering, arts, humanities, social sciences, law, economics and education.

SZTE is also renowned for its research excellence and innovation, especially in the fields of natural sciences, health sciences and agriculture. It has several research centers and institutes, such as the ELI-ALPS Laser Research Centre, the MTA-SZTE Momentum GINOP Research Group on Artificial Intelligence and the MTA-SZTE Research Group on Plant Biology.

Other Hungarian universities shine as well

The University of Debrecen (DE) is the second-best Hungarian university in the QS World University Rankings 2023, ranking 651st globally. DE is also ranked 801st in the THE World University Rankings 2022 and among the top 1000 in the ARWU 2022. DE is one of the oldest and largest universities in Hungary, with more than 28,000 students and over 5,000 staff members. It offers programs in English and Hungarian in various fields, such as medicine, engineering, agriculture, business, law, arts and sciences.

The third-best Hungarian university in the QS World University Rankings 2023 is Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), ranking 701st globally. ELTE is also ranked 601st in the THE World University Rankings 2022 and 601st in the ARWU 2022. ELTE is the oldest and most prestigious university in Hungary, founded in 1635. It has more than 28,000 students and over 3,000 academic staff members. It offers programs in English and Hungarian in a wide range of disciplines, such as humanities, social sciences, law, education, natural sciences and informatics.

Hungary offers quality education at affordable costs
