The 15th-ranked Duke women’s tennis team continued their impressive start to the season with a convincing 4-0 win over Charlotte on Thursday at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The Blue Devils improved to 3-0 on the year, while the 49ers fell to 2-1.

The win over Charlotte was a special one for the Blue Devils, as it marked their 100th victory at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center since the 2008 campaign. Duke has been dominant on their home court, posting a 100-16 record in the last 15 seasons. The Blue Devils have won 23 straight matches at Sheffield, dating back to February 2019.

Duke Sweeps Doubles Point with Ease

Duke wasted no time in securing the doubles point, as they swept all three matches in convincing fashion. The No. 1 pair of Karolina Berankova and Margaryta Bilokin defeated Charlotte’s Tai Martin and Emma Scott, 6-1, while the No. 2 duo of Georgia Drummy and Chloe Beck beat Ruxandra Andriescu and Pierina Imparato, 6-2. The No. 3 tandem of Kelly Chen and Meible Chi completed the sweep with a 6-3 win over Sasha Hill and Ana Rasmussen.

Duke Clinches Match with Three Singles Wins

The Blue Devils carried their momentum into the singles matches, as they quickly clinched the match with three straight-set wins. Berankova, ranked No. 18 in the nation, defeated Martin, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot, while Drummy, ranked No. 19, beat Andriescu, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 2 position. Beck, ranked No. 32, sealed the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Imparato at the No. 3 spot. The remaining three matches were left unfinished, as Duke had already secured the 4-0 victory.

Duke Looks Ahead to Illinois on Saturday

The Blue Devils will look to extend their winning streak on Saturday, when they host Illinois at 6 p.m. at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The Illini are 2-0 on the season, with wins over Western Michigan and Michigan State. Duke leads the all-time series against Illinois, 6-1, with the last meeting being a 4-0 win for the Blue Devils in 2019.
