Al Nassr came from behind twice to beat Al Shabab 3-2 in a thrilling Saudi Pro League match on Sunday. Anderson Talisca scored a brace, including a late penalty, to seal the victory for the visitors.
The hosts started the game brightly and took the lead in the 11th minute. Vitinho found some space on the right wing and delivered a low cross into the box. Diallo was there to tap it in from close range and give Al Shabab the advantage.
Al Nassr tried to respond quickly, but Al Absi was alert to deny Ronaldo and Otavio. The home side looked comfortable in possession and created some chances of their own. Carrasco tested Al-Najjar with a long-range shot, while Rakitic saw his free kick go over the bar.
Al Nassr level before the break
The visitors finally found the equalizer in the 43rd minute. Boushal whipped in a corner from the left and Laporte rose highest to head it into the net. It was the French defender’s first goal for Al Nassr since joining from Manchester City in January.
The goal gave Al Nassr some momentum and they almost took the lead before the interval. Ronaldo unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box, but Al Absi made a superb save to keep it out.
Al Shabab restore their lead
The second half started with more intensity and drama. Al Shabab regained their lead in the 53rd minute, thanks to a stunning strike from Carlos Junior. The Brazilian winger received a pass from Rakitic and unleashed a rocket from 25 yards that flew into the top corner.
Al Nassr were stunned by the goal and struggled to create clear chances. Al Shabab looked more dangerous on the counter-attack and could have extended their lead. Carrasco had a shot blocked by Alamri, while Diallo missed a one-on-one opportunity.
Al Nassr turn the game around
The visitors showed their resilience and equalized again in the 77th minute. Otavio played a clever through ball to Talisca, who slotted it past Al Absi with a cool finish. It was the Brazilian midfielder’s first goal for Al Nassr since joining on loan from Guangzhou Evergrande.
The game was heading for a draw, but Al Nassr had other ideas. In the 87th minute, they were awarded a penalty after Al-Sharari fouled Mane in the box. Talisca stepped up and smashed it into the bottom corner to complete his brace and give Al Nassr the lead for the first time.
Al Shabab tried to salvage a point in the stoppage time, but Al Nassr held on to secure a vital win. The result moved them to second place in the table, four points behind leaders Al Hilal. Al Shabab remained in fourth place, seven points behind Al Nassr.
