AirPods Pro 2: Apple’s new wireless earbuds with USB-C charging case

Apple has recently launched the second generation of its popular AirPods Pro wireless earbuds, which come with a new USB-C charging case. The new case allows users to charge their AirPods Pro 2 with the same cable as their Mac, iPad, or iPhone 15 devices. However, Apple is not offering the USB-C case as a standalone purchase for existing AirPods Pro owners.

The AirPods Pro 2 are the latest version of Apple’s premium wireless earbuds, which offer incredible sound quality, active noise cancellation, transparency mode, and spatial audio. The new earbuds also feature improved IP54-rated dust resistance, which makes them more durable for outdoor use. Additionally, the AirPods Pro 2 will support up to 4 hours of lossless audio with ultra-low latency when connected to the Apple Vision Pro headset, which is expected to launch in early 2024.

The most noticeable change in the AirPods Pro 2 is the new USB-C charging case, which replaces the Lightning port of the previous generation. The USB-C case enables users to charge their AirPods Pro 2 with the same cable as their Mac, iPad, or iPhone 15 devices, which also have USB-C ports. Users can also charge their AirPods Pro 2 directly with their iPhone 15 devices, without needing a separate adapter.

Why is Apple not selling the USB-C case separately?

Apple’s decision to not offer the USB-C case as a separate accessory has disappointed some customers who already own the first generation of AirPods Pro with a Lightning port. These customers will have to either buy a new pair of AirPods Pro 2 for $249, or use a USB-C to Lightning adapter for $29, if they want to charge their earbuds with the same cable as their other devices.

Apple has not given an official explanation for this move, but some analysts speculate that it is a marketing strategy to encourage customers to upgrade to the new AirPods Pro 2, which have additional features and capabilities. Another possible reason is that Apple wants to differentiate the AirPods Pro 2 from the first generation, which are still available for purchase at a lower price of $199.

How to order the AirPods Pro 2?

The AirPods Pro 2 with MagSafe Charging Case (USB-C) are available to order from Apple’s website and more than 30 other countries and regions starting from September 22, 2023. The earbuds come in three colors: white, black, and green. They also include an expanded range of ear tip sizes for a better fit. Customers can also engrave their name or emoji on the case for free.

The AirPods Pro 2 are compatible with iOS 17, which brings new audio features such as Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness. These features allow users to adjust the noise control based on their environment and preferences. The AirPods Pro 2 will also work with Apple Vision Pro, which is a revolutionary headset that offers immersive virtual and augmented reality experiences.
