SOUEAST S08 DM Roadshow Turns Egypt Coast Into Hybrid Showroom

SOUEAST parked its seven-seat S08 DM plug-in hybrid on Egypt’s North Coast this month, opening a four-week open-air roadshow that doubles as the brand’s first-anniversary celebration in the market. The models first reached Egyptian dealers in June. Visitors at the Alamein stretch can walk the cabin, test the hybrid modes and feel the space that the company markets for family coast runs.

The timing sits inside a broader climb. Since the brand entered Egypt in July 2025 it claims sixth place in the overall passenger-vehicle market and fourth among Chinese nameplates, plus two Egypt Car of the Year awards.

Open Air on the Pearl of the Mediterranean

The roadshow runs from Seashell North Coast through Mountain View Ras El Hekma. Organisers call the strip the Pearl of the Mediterranean and treat it as a natural showroom for holidaymakers who already have cash and family logistics on their minds.

SOUEAST placed the S08 DM in an open display so people can climb in without a dealership appointment. The brand says large crowds turned up, explored the vehicle and talked with staff. That matches the seasonal pattern: North Coast tourism still concentrates heavy domestic traffic in summer, and brands that show up there meet buyers away from Cairo traffic and showroom pressure.

  • Four-week duration timed to peak coast season
  • First-anniversary marker after the July 2025 market entry
  • S08 DM as hero with S06 DM also available for comparison
  • Immersive format rather than closed-door launch events

Local auto chatter on X treated the earlier June launch video from the official account as a high-visibility moment, racking up more than 1.6 million views. The coast stop keeps that momentum in front of people who are already travelling in multi-row vehicles.

Two Hybrids Built for Different Egyptian Days

SOUEAST positions the S06 DM as an urban stylish SUV for younger buyers and the S08 DM as the seven-seat urban comfort SUV for families. Both use a 1.5TD hybrid-dedicated setup that prioritises electric drive in city traffic and switches to fuel for longer high-speed runs. That dual mode is the practical pitch in a market where public charging remains uneven.

Model Role Key power figures Space notes
S06 DM Urban stylish SUV 255 kW max, 530 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 7.9 s, 114 km NEDC electric Sporty fascia, 15.6-inch screen, full-width LED tail lamps
S08 DM 7-seat urban comfort SUV 255 kW max, 525 Nm, CATL hybrid battery 4,810 mm long, 2,820 mm wheelbase, 1,708 L max cargo, 41 storage spots

The official S08 DM specification page lists further detail: 89 km WLTC pure-electric range (108 km NEDC), 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load discharge, a 6.4 L heated-and-cooled refrigerator, seat heat/vent/massage, and 86 percent high-strength steel in the body structure. Official copy also notes four preset seat modes that include bed and sofa layouts for overnight or long rest stops.

One Year from Zero to Sixth Place

SOUEAST arrived in July 2025 with four fuel-powered SUVs: the S05, S06, S07 and S09. The hybrids followed roughly eleven months later. The brand’s own July announcement stated the ranking climb and the ECOTY recognition.

  1. July 2025, Market entry with four ICE SUVs spanning B, C and D segments.
  2. 2025-2026 ECOTY cycle, Special Excellence Award for Best Launch of a New Brand; S05 named Best Chinese SUV in the Compact Size Category.
  3. June 2026, Egypt debut of S06 DM and S08 DM plug-in hybrids.
  4. August 2026, North Coast roadshow opens as the first-anniversary activation; more than 20 sales showrooms and 10 after-sales centres already operating.

The same July hybrid launch announcement details previewed future sedans, additional new-energy models and accelerated local manufacturing. Parentage traces to the long-running Fujian operation now fully under Chery after the 2024 ownership change, giving the brand access to larger group hybrid tech and export channels.

Why the Coast Matters More Than Another Cairo Booth

Egyptian families already treat the North Coast as the default long summer escape. Putting a seven-seat hybrid with a fridge, big cargo bay and external power outlet in front of those travellers turns a leisure trip into a product trial. Daily electric running keeps fuel costs down around the resorts; the petrol engine removes range worry for the return drive to Cairo or further destinations.

Market data points to rising Chinese share overall. Focus2move figures for the first half of 2026 showed total vehicle sales up 40.5 percent, with Nissan leading and Chery among the strong climbers. Pure battery-electric volume is still small. The International Energy Agency recorded roughly 25,000 electric car sales across Africa in 2025, with Egypt the largest single market at about 7,900 units. Against that backdrop, plug-in hybrids look like the bridge product that can sell now.

SOUEAST’s own network claim of more than 20 showrooms and 10 service centres gives it physical reach beyond the temporary roadshow. The local site at SOUEAST Egypt local showroom network lists the full model range and test-drive booking, keeping the conversation open after visitors leave the coast.

What the S08 DM Offers Egyptian Families

Dimensions place it firmly in the large-family class: 4,810 mm overall length and a 2,820 mm wheelbase create genuine third-row usability. Maximum cargo of 1,708 litres with seats folded handles luggage plus beach gear. Forty-one storage compartments reduce the usual scramble for water bottles, chargers and kids’ items.

Power delivery is the practical differentiator. The 1.5TD plus hybrid system claims 255 kW and 525 Nm, with a 60-100 km/h overtaking time of 4.1 seconds on the global page. Electric-first operation in town cuts consumption; the engine covers desert or highway stretches without hunting for a charger. The 3.3 kW V2L outlet turns the car into a temporary power source for camping or outdoor setups common on the coast.

  • Six airbags standard plus electronic child lock and rear-seat steel protector
  • 15.6-inch tilting smart screen running on a Snapdragon 8155 chip with voice control
  • 12-speaker audio and independent air vents for second and third rows
  • 50 W wireless charging and passenger-side BOSS button for seat control
  • Four one-touch seat scene presets including bed and sofa layouts

Arabic auto accounts noted launch-period warranty language of six years or 150,000 km on the vehicle and eight years or 160,000 km on the battery, plus free maintenance windows. Those figures matter to buyers comparing Chinese options against longer-established European and Japanese names.

Portfolio Stretch and the Next Layer of Localisation

The current Egypt range now mixes four fuel SUVs with two plug-in hybrids. That dual-track approach lets the brand sell into both price-sensitive ICE buyers and families ready to try hybrid without full EV commitment. Management has already signalled more new-energy models and stronger localisation, including eventual local manufacturing.

The sleeper element is distribution method as much as product. Traditional brands still lean on fixed showrooms in major cities. SOUEAST is using the seasonal population shift to the coast as a free, high-intent audience. If the four-week stop converts a meaningful share of browsers into orders, other Chinese and even local players will copy the tactic next summer.

IEA data on Africa electric car sales underlines how early the continent remains on pure battery vehicles. Hybrids that do not require dense public charging can grow faster while infrastructure catches up. SOUEAST’s Egypt experiment tests exactly that thesis in a high-visibility leisure market.

The S08 DM will keep rolling along the North Coast for the rest of the roadshow window. Whether the open-air displays translate into sustained share gains past the anniversary year will show up in the next set of registration numbers. For now the brand has placed a fully equipped family hybrid where Egyptian buyers already spend their summer money and attention.
