The Callaway Camaro C8 is a rare and powerful beast that was born in the 1990s. Only 18 of these modified fourth-generation Camaros were ever made by Callaway Cars, a company known for its high-performance Corvettes. One of these C8s is heading to auction soon, and it looks like a restomodded classic Ferrari with an LS swap.
The C8 SuperNatural Camaro was introduced at the January 1994 Los Angeles Auto Show. It was based on the then-new Chevrolet Camaro, a lower cost platform than the Corvette with a larger market. The C8 brought Callaway engineering and implementation to a wider audience.
The C8 offered a range of performance and appearance enhancements to enable owners to tailor their car to their needs, tastes and resources. The most striking feature was the CamAerobody designed by Paul Deutschman, which gave the C8 a longer, lower and pointier nose, different headlights, hood vents and fender vents. The bodywork was inspired by the classic Ferrari 250 GTO and the Callaway Sledgehammer Corvette.
The C8 also had a SuperNatural engine, a naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V8 that produced 400 horsepower. Customers could later send their cars back for 425, 435, or 450 horsepower upgrades. The engine had bespoke machined aluminum valve covers and a handmade Callaway “Honker” intake. The C8 also had a six-speed manual transmission, a Callaway exhaust system, a sport suspension, Brembo brakes and 17-inch Dymag wheels.
The C8 Heading to Auction
The C8 that is going to be auctioned by Mecum Auctions is a 1995 model with a red exterior and a black interior. It has the 400-horsepower engine and only 6,000 miles on the odometer. It is one of only four C8s built in 1995 and one of only six C8s with a red exterior.
The C8 has a clean Carfax report and comes with the original window sticker, owner’s manual, Callaway literature and a certificate of authenticity. It also has a custom car cover and a battery tender. The C8 is expected to fetch between $80,000 and $100,000 at the auction, which will take place in Las Vegas from November 11 to 13.
The C8 is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Callaway history and a unique Camaro that looks like a restomodded classic Ferrari with an LS swap. It is a supercar that was ahead of its time and still turns heads today.
