Buell Motorcycle Co. has announced that it has received over $100 million in pre-orders for its latest model, the Super Cruiser 1190, a bike that combines the performance of a sportbike with the laid-back nature of a cruiser. The bike, which was unveiled in February 2023, is designed in collaboration with legendary motorcycle designer Roland Sands.
A Unique Blend of Style and Performance
The Super Cruiser 1190 is powered by an 1,190cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected V-twin engine that delivers a maximum power output of 175 horsepower and 101 pound-feet of torque. The bike features 17-inch wheels, fully adjustable suspension, and adjustable handlebars and footpegs for optimal ergonomics. The bike weighs only 450 pounds, making it surprisingly light for its power class and an American V-twin.
The bike also boasts a distinctive design that blends the elements of a sportbike with a cruiser. The bike has a low-slung stance, a sleek fairing, a single-sided swingarm, and a dual exhaust system. The bike also features Roland Sands’ signature touches, such as the custom paint job, the leather seat, and the billet aluminum parts.
An Unprecedented Demand for an American V-Twin
According to Bill Melvin, the CEO of Buell, the demand for the new model marks a first for American V-Twins. He said, “Americans love style, muscle, and performance. The Super Cruiser breaks the mold for all three, and the response shows that Buell simply nailed it. This is utterly unheard of for an American V-Twin.”
Buell has received over $120 million in pre-orders for the Super Cruiser in just six months since it opened the bookings. The bike is expected to enter production in 2025 and carry a retail price in the $20,000 to $30,000 range. Buell has also invited anyone interested in joining them for this exciting ride to reach out to them.
A New Chapter for Buell Motorcycle Co.
The Super Cruiser is not only a new model for Buell, but also a new chapter for the company. Buell Motorcycle Co. was founded by Erik Buell in 1983 and was acquired by Harley-Davidson in 1998. However, Harley-Davidson discontinued Buell in 2009 and sold its assets to Liquid Asset Partners in 2010.
Buell made a comeback in 2021 with the Hammerhead 1190, which was claimed to be America’s fastest production motorcycle. The company also announced its plans to launch 10 new models by 2024, including electric bikes. The Super Cruiser is one of these new models and represents Buell’s vision to create innovative and diverse motorcycles for different segments of riders.
