Apple Watch Weather Complication Bug Fixed in watchOS 10.1 Update

Apple has released a new software update for its Apple Watch devices that fixes a bug that was causing the weather complication to display blank data on some watch faces. The bug was first reported in September, after the launch of watchOS 10, and affected users who had the weather complication enabled on their watch faces.

What is the weather complication bug?

The weather complication is a feature that allows users to see the current temperature, weather conditions, and forecast on their watch faces. The complication can be customized to show different types of information, such as the high and low temperatures, the chance of rain, or the UV index.

However, some users reported that the weather complication was not showing any data on their watch faces, even though the Weather app on the Apple Watch was working fine. The complication would show a blank space or a dash instead of the weather information. This issue persisted even after restarting the Apple Watch or changing the watch face.

How to fix the weather complication bug?

Apple has acknowledged the issue and provided two potential solutions in a support document titled “If the Apple Watch Weather complication isn’t working”. The first solution is to update the Apple Watch to watchOS 10.1 or later, which is the latest version of the operating system that was released on October 25, 2023. The update includes several new features and improvements, such as Double Tap, NameDrop, and more.

To update the Apple Watch to watchOS 10.1 or later, users need to have their iPhone nearby and connected to Wi-Fi. They also need to make sure that their Apple Watch has at least 50% battery and is placed on its charger. Then, they can open the Watch app on their iPhone, tap General > Software Update, and follow the on-screen instructions.

If the weather complication still does not show up after updating the Apple Watch to watchOS 10.1 or later, Apple suggests that users reset their iPhone’s Location settings. To do this, users need to open the Settings app on their iPhone, tap Privacy & Security > Location Services, scroll down and tap Weather, tap Never under Allow Location Access, then tap the original setting.

If this does not work either, Apple recommends that users reset all privacy and location settings on their iPhone. To do this, users need to open the Settings app on their iPhone, tap General > Transfer or Reset iPhone, tap Reset > Reset Location & Privacy, enter their passcode and reset.

What are the benefits of having the weather complication?

The weather complication is one of the most popular and useful features of the Apple Watch, as it allows users to quickly check the weather conditions without opening their iPhone or any other app. The weather complication can help users plan their day better, avoid getting caught in bad weather, or dress appropriately for the temperature.

The weather complication can also be integrated with other complications, such as Siri Face, Time Travel, or World Clock. For example, users can ask Siri to show them the weather in different cities around the world, or use Time Travel to see how the weather will change throughout the day.

The weather complication is also customizable and supports different units of measurement, such as Celsius or Fahrenheit, metric or imperial. Users can choose which type of information they want to see on their watch face by opening the Watch app on their iPhone, tapping My Watch > Weather > Complication.
