Rockstar Games’ parent company seeks to acquire GTA6.com domain

According to a recent report by KYE on X (formerly Twitter), Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, is actively trying to get the GTA6.com domain. The company allegedly sent a legal letter to the domain owner requesting its transfer to their name. If players go to www.gta6.com, they will find out that the website is newly created but not installed at this moment.

The alleged letter contains the following statement on behalf of the company:

Your registration of the GTA6.com domain name violates our rights in our Grand Theft Auto Marks. In addition, Take-Two is the publisher of GRAND THEFT AUTO V (FIVE), the form of which (combining our game name plus the following number) your registration clearly copies.

The letter also asks the owner to transfer the domain name by 3 p.m. BST on October 26, 2023, and to confirm their agreement by countersigning the letter and returning it to Take-Two’s in-house counsel, Justin Roberts.

A possible hint for GTA 6 announcement

This news has sparked a lot of speculation among GTA fans, who have been eagerly waiting for an official announcement of GTA 6, the next installment in the popular open-world crime series. Some fans believe that this move by Take-Two indicates that GTA 6 is in early development and that Rockstar Games is preparing to reveal it soon.

However, other fans are more skeptical and caution against reading too much into this domain name dispute. They point out that Take-Two has a history of acquiring or requesting various GTA-related domains, such as GTAV.com, GTAVI.com, and GTAVII.com, without necessarily using them for any official purpose. They also note that Rockstar Games has not confirmed or denied anything about GTA 6, and that any rumors or leaks should be taken with a grain of salt.

A long wait for GTA 6

While GTA 6 has not been officially confirmed, it would make sense for Rockstar Games to be thinking of the future of the GTA franchise. After all, it has been nearly eight years since GTA 5 launched and the series has thrived in that time, with GTA Online being a huge success and GTA 5 being ported to PS5 and Xbox Series X later this year.

However, it is unlikely that GTA 6 will be released anytime soon, as Rockstar Games is known for taking its time to develop and polish its games. A report by VentureBeat suggested that Take-Two expects to spend $89 million on marketing between April 2024 and March 2025, which could be a possible window for GTA 6’s release. But again, this is not definite and could be for another unannounced project.

Fans will have to wait until Rockstar Games officially announces GTA 6 for any solid information. Until then, they can enjoy GTA 5 and GTA Online on their current or next-gen consoles.
