Grubbin Community Day: How to Get the Best Out of the Bug and Electric Type Pokémon

Pokémon GO fans are in for a treat this month as the September 2023 Community Day will feature Grubbin, the Bug and Electric type Pokémon. On September 23, 2023, from 2pm to 5pm local time, Grubbin will appear more frequently in the wild, and players will have a chance to evolve it into its final form, Vikavolt, with a special move. Here are some tips and tricks on how to make the most of this event.

Catch as Many Grubbin as You Can

Grubbin is a relatively rare Pokémon in the wild, so this is a great opportunity to stock up on its candy and stardust. You will need 50 candy to evolve it into Charjabug, and another 100 candy to evolve it into Vikavolt. Plus, you will need more candy to power up your Pokémon if you want to use them in battles.

To catch more Grubbin, make sure you use incense, lures, and pinap berries during the event. Incense and lures will attract more Grubbin to your location, while pinap berries will double the amount of candy you get from each catch. You can also complete field research tasks that reward you with Grubbin encounters.

Evolve Your Grubbin During the Event

The main attraction of this Community Day is the exclusive move that both Charjabug and Vikavolt will learn if you evolve them during the event or up to 5 hours afterward. The move is Volt Switch, an Electric type fast attack that deals high damage and charges energy quickly. Volt Switch is one of the best fast moves in the game, especially for Electric type Pokémon.

To evolve your Grubbin into Charjabug, you just need 50 candy. However, to evolve your Charjabug into Vikavolt, you will need 100 candy and a Magnetic Lure. A Magnetic Lure is a special type of lure that attracts Electric, Steel, and Rock type Pokémon. It also allows certain Pokémon to evolve near it, such as Magneton, Nosepass, and Charjabug. You can buy a Magnetic Lure from the shop for 200 coins, or get one from special research tasks.

Make sure you evolve your Grubbin near a Magnetic Lure during the event window to get a Vikavolt with Volt Switch. You can also evolve any Charjabug you have stored from previous events or raids to get the exclusive move.

Choose Your Best Grubbin to Evolve

Not all Grubbin are created equal. Some have higher stats than others, which can make a difference in battles. To find out how good your Grubbin is, you can use the in-game appraisal feature or a third-party app like Poke Genie or Calcy IV. These tools will tell you the individual values (IVs) of your Pokémon, which range from 0 to 15 for each stat (attack, defense, and stamina).

The higher the IVs, the better the potential of your Pokémon. However, IVs are not everything. Depending on what league or format you want to use your Pokémon in, you might want different IV combinations. For example, in the Great League (where the CP limit is 1500), you might want a lower attack IV and higher defense and stamina IVs to maximize your stat product. In the Master League (where there is no CP limit), you might want a higher attack IV to win CMP ties.

You can use tools like PvPoke or GO Stadium to find out what IVs are optimal for your Pokémon in different leagues and formats. You can also check their rankings and movesets to see how they perform against other popular Pokémon.

Test Your Charjabug and Vikavolt in PvP Battles

One of the best ways to enjoy your new Charjabug and Vikavolt is to use them in PvP battles against other players or Team GO Rocket. Both Pokémon have some advantages and disadvantages in different scenarios, so it’s worth experimenting with them.

Charjabug is a bulky Bug and Electric type Pokémon that can take hits from many common types like Grass, Electric, Steel, and Psychic. It also has access to some decent charge moves like Discharge, Crunch, and Bug Buzz. However, it is weak to Fire, Rock, and Ground types, which are also very common in PvP.

Vikavolt is a glass cannon Bug and Electric type Pokémon that can dish out high damage with its fast and charge moves. It has Volt Switch as its exclusive fast move, which pairs well with Discharge and Crunch. It also has X-Scissor as an alternative charge move that can surprise Grass and Psychic types. However, it is very frail and can be taken down by faster or bulkier opponents.

According to Pokémon GO Hub, a website that provides news, events, and guides for Pokémon GO, Volt Switch has very little impact on both Charjabug and Vikavolt’s places in the current PvP meta. Charjabug was decent before, and remains decent still. On the other hand, Vikavolt was average before, and remains average still. Vikavolt really wants a harder-hitting charge move to reach its potential as a glass cannon. Save one for the lower leagues for a future movepool update. If you are going to prioritize one build from the event, they recommend a bulky Charjabug with Volt Switch.

Have Fun and Be Safe

The most important thing to remember during this Community Day is to have fun and be safe. This is a rare opportunity to catch and evolve a unique Pokémon that might not be available again for a long time. You can also enjoy the other bonuses of the event, such as 3x catch XP, 3-hour incense, and special snapshots.

However, you should also be mindful of your surroundings and follow the local health guidelines regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Wear a mask, practice social distancing, and avoid crowded areas. You can also play with your friends remotely using remote raid passes or online battle invitations.

Grubbin Community Day is a great chance to add some Bug and Electric type Pokémon to your collection and test them in battles. Don’t miss this opportunity to catch some Grubbin and evolve them into Charjabug and Vikavolt with Volt Switch.
