WWD Celebrates Female Choreographers at Paris Opera Gala

WWD, the fashion industry trade journal often referred to as the “Bible of fashion”, was among the guests who attended an evening of powerful dance performances at the Paris Opera Gala on Thursday. The event, which celebrated female choreographers and their contributions to the art form, was also attended by celebrities such as Charlotte Casiraghi, Golshifteh Farahani, Clémence Poésy and Emma Mackey.

A Tribute to Women in Dance

The gala, which was organized by the Paris Opera Foundation and sponsored by Rolex, featured four ballets created by women: In Creases by Justin Peck, Blake Works I by William Forsythe, Season’s Canon by Crystal Pite and Grand Miroir by Saburo Teshigawara. The dancers showcased their skills and emotions in a variety of styles, from classical to contemporary, accompanied by music ranging from Bach to James Blake.

The event also honored the legacy of Pina Bausch, the German choreographer who revolutionized dance theater with her expressive and innovative works. A video tribute was played before the performance of Season’s Canon, which was inspired by Bausch’s masterpiece The Rite of Spring. The audience gave a standing ovation to the dancers and the artistic director of the Paris Opera Ballet, Aurélie Dupont, who thanked Bausch for her influence and inspiration.

A Glamorous Night Out

The gala was followed by a cocktail reception and a dinner at the Palais Garnier, where guests mingled and admired the architecture and decorations of the historic opera house. WWD captured some of the best moments and outfits of the night, such as Casiraghi’s black lace dress by Saint Laurent, Farahani’s red velvet gown by Dior, Poésy’s floral print dress by Gucci and Mackey’s sequined jumpsuit by Chanel.

The event also raised funds for the Paris Opera Foundation, which supports the artistic projects and educational programs of the Paris Opera. The foundation’s president, Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière, said that the gala was a success and that he was proud to celebrate women in dance. He also announced that next year’s gala would be dedicated to opera singers.
