Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Welcome a New Feathered Friend to Their Family

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a new addition to their family: a chicken named Sinkie. The chicken was previously owned by Ellen DeGeneres, who revealed on Instagram that she had to rehome Sinkie after she was injured and bullied by the other chickens in her coop. DeGeneres wrote that she was lucky that her friends Harry and Meghan had room for one more in their coop, and joked that she was not sure what Sinkie’s royal title would be.

DeGeneres is a longtime friend of the royal couple, and even attended their surprise vow renewal ceremony in February 2023. The comedian and her wife Portia de Rossi also live in Montecito, California, where Harry and Meghan moved in 2020 after stepping back from their senior royal roles. The two couples have spent time together in their neighborhood, and share a love for animals and rescue pets.

The Royal Coop: Archie’s Chick Inn

Harry and Meghan have been passionate about rescuing chickens and giving them a home in their coop, which they named Archie’s Chick Inn in honor of their eldest son, Archie, who is four years old. The couple also have a two-year-old daughter, Lilibet. The pair showed off their coop during their CBS tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, where Meghan said that she loved rescuing animals. Harry added that his wife had always wanted chickens, and that they were happy to have them as part of their family.

The couple also have three dogs: a beagle named Guy, a Labrador-shepherd mix named Bogart, and a rescue lab named Pula. The dogs are often seen running around the property, chasing squirrels and providing emotional support to the family. Meghan adopted her first dog, Bogart, in 2012 with the help of DeGeneres, who encouraged her to take him home from a shelter. Bogart could not join Meghan in the U.K. when she moved there to be with Harry, and stayed with a friend in Canada.

The Royal Family’s Love for Animals

Harry and Meghan are not the only members of the royal family who have a soft spot for animals. Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, is well-known for her love of corgis, and has owned more than 30 of them since she became queen in 1952. She also breeds Labradors and dorgis, a cross between a corgi and a dachshund. The queen’s dogs have accompanied her on many occasions, and have even appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine.

Harry’s brother, Prince William, and his wife, Kate Middleton, also have a dog, a cocker spaniel named Lupo, who joined their family in 2012. Lupo was a gift from Kate’s brother, James Middleton, who breeds spaniels. Lupo has been a loyal companion to William and Kate, and has played with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Lupo has also been featured in official portraits of the family, and has a book written about him.

Harry and Meghan’s new chicken, Sinkie, is the latest addition to the royal family’s animal kingdom, and will surely enjoy a happy and comfortable life with them. The royal couple have shown their commitment to animal welfare and rescue, and have given their pets a loving home.
