Motorola Edge Plus (2024): What we want to see from the flagship phone

Motorola has been making some impressive strides in the smartphone market, especially with its budget-friendly Moto G and Moto E series. But the company is not neglecting its premium segment, as it has launched the Motorola Edge Plus in 2023, a flagship phone that competes with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S23 and Google Pixel 7.

The Motorola Edge Plus (2023) was a solid device, with a sleek design, a powerful processor, a stunning display, and a versatile camera system. It also had some unique features, such as a 5,100-mAh battery, a headphone jack, and a waterfall-style curved edge screen.

But as good as the Motorola Edge Plus (2023) was, it also had some drawbacks, such as a lack of expandable storage, a mediocre software update policy, and a camera performance that was not on par with its rivals. Moreover, the phone faced stiff competition from other flagship phones that offered more features, better cameras, and lower prices.

That’s why we are excited to see what Motorola has in store for the next iteration of its flagship phone, the Motorola Edge Plus (2024). We have compiled a wishlist of all the features we want to see from the upcoming device, based on the rumors, leaks, and our own expectations.

A better camera system

One of the main areas where the Motorola Edge Plus (2023) fell short was the camera department. While the phone had a 108-megapixel main sensor, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 25-megapixel selfie camera, the results were not very impressive. The photos often looked too vibrant and unnatural, the zoom quality was poor, and the low-light performance was mediocre.

We hope that Motorola improves the camera system of the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) by using better sensors, lenses, and software. We would like to see a higher optical zoom capability, a dedicated macro lens, a night mode, and a portrait mode for both photos and videos. We would also appreciate some AI-powered features, such as scene detection, object recognition, and photo editing.

A faster and smoother display

The Motorola Edge Plus (2023) had a 6.7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 90Hz. The display was one of the highlights of the phone, as it offered a vivid and immersive viewing experience, thanks to the curved edges and the HDR10+ support.

However, we think that Motorola can do even better with the display of the Motorola Edge Plus (2024). We would love to see a higher resolution, such as 1440 x 3200 pixels, and a higher refresh rate, such as 120Hz or even 144Hz. This would make the display sharper, smoother, and more responsive, especially for gaming and scrolling. We would also like to see an adaptive refresh rate feature, which would automatically adjust the refresh rate according to the content and save battery life.

A more reliable software update policy

Another weak point of the Motorola Edge Plus (2023) was the software update policy. The phone came with Android 10 out of the box, and Motorola promised only one major Android update, to Android 11. This was disappointing, considering that most flagship phones offer at least two or three major Android updates, and some even offer four.

We hope that Motorola changes its software update policy for the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) and commits to providing more frequent and longer-term updates. We would like to see the phone launch with Android 12, and receive at least two more major Android updates, to Android 13 and Android 14. We would also like to see regular security patches and bug fixes, as well as some exclusive features and customizations from Motorola.

A more competitive price

The Motorola Edge Plus (2023) had a launch price of $800, which was not very affordable, considering the competition. The phone was more expensive than the OnePlus 11, which had similar specs and features, and the Google Pixel 7, which had a better camera and software. The phone was also not much cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S23, which had a more premium design, a better display, and a more versatile camera.

We hope that Motorola lowers the price of the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) and makes it more competitive with other flagship phones. We think that a price of around $700 would be more reasonable, and would attract more buyers who are looking for a high-end phone with a good value proposition. We also hope that Motorola offers some discounts and deals for the phone, especially during the launch period and the holiday season.

A more distinctive design

The Motorola Edge Plus (2023) had a sleek and elegant design, with a glass back, a metal frame, and a waterfall-style curved edge screen. The phone also had some nice touches, such as a headphone jack, a fingerprint scanner under the display, and a punch-hole selfie camera. However, the design was not very original, and looked similar to other flagship phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S20 and the Huawei P40.

We hope that Motorola gives the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) a more distinctive and innovative design, that sets it apart from other flagship phones. We would like to see some new colors, materials, and patterns, as well as some unique features, such as a pop-up selfie camera, a dual-screen display, or a modular design. We would also like to see Motorola keep the headphone jack, the fingerprint scanner, and the curved edge screen, as they are some of the signature features of the Edge series.
