Fortnite, the popular free-to-play battle royale game, has added another iconic character to its roster: Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid franchise. The latest update, v28.10, introduces the legendary spy and a variety of items and quests related to the Metal Gear Solid series.
Solid Snake is available for players who own the Big Bang Battle Pass, which costs 950 V-Bucks (about $8.99). The Battle Pass also grants access to various outfits, emotes, and loading screens featuring other gaming and pop culture icons, such as Peter Griffin from Family Guy and Deku from My Hero Academia.
To unlock Solid Snake, players need to complete a series of quests that are inspired by the Metal Gear Solid gameplay. For example, one of the quests requires players to hide in a cardboard box, which is one of Snake’s signature moves. Completing all the quests on Page 2 of the Battle Pass will also unlock the Old Snake style, which is based on Snake’s appearance in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
The quests will remain available until March 8, 2024, at 2 AM ET, which is likely the end of the current season.
What Else is New in Fortnite v28.10 Update
Besides Solid Snake, the v28.10 update also brings back the Anvil Rocket Launcher, a powerful weapon that can fire rockets that explode on impact. The update also includes some balance changes for the Enforcer AR, the Reaper Sniper Rifle, the Hyper SMG, and the Ballistic Shield. These changes are based on the gameplay data and community feedback, and aim to improve the overall balance and pace of the game.
Additionally, the update fixes some bugs and glitches that were affecting the game, such as the issue with the Storm circle speed, sprint speed, and Energy regeneration. These have been reverted to match the same speed from Chapter 4.
Fortnite Continues to Expand its Universe with Crossovers
Fortnite is known for its frequent and diverse crossovers with other gaming and pop culture franchises. The game has featured characters and items from Marvel, DC, Star Wars, The Walking Dead, Stranger Things, John Wick, and many more. The game also hosts live events and concerts, featuring artists like Marshmello, Travis Scott, and Ariana Grande.
Fortnite’s crossovers are not only a way to attract new and existing players, but also a way to celebrate the gaming and pop culture history. By adding Solid Snake, Fortnite pays tribute to one of the most influential and beloved video game characters of all time, and gives fans a chance to experience the Metal Gear Solid universe in a new way.
