Big Brother is back on ITV after a five-year hiatus, and fans are eager to see the new housemates and the revamped house. But what are the rules and regulations that the contestants have to follow inside the house? And what items are strictly forbidden from entering the Big Brother house?
No contact with the outside world
One of the most important rules of Big Brother is that the housemates have no contact with the outside world. This means that they cannot use any phones, computers, TVs, radios, newspapers, magazines, books, or any other source of information or entertainment. They also cannot receive any letters, messages, or visits from their family and friends, unless Big Brother decides to grant them as a reward or a twist.
The only exception to this rule is the Diary Room, where the housemates can talk to Big Brother and express their feelings, thoughts, and opinions. The conversations in the Diary Room are confidential and should not be shared with other housemates unless told to do so by Big Brother.
No personal items
Another rule of Big Brother is that the housemates cannot bring any personal items into the house, except for their clothes and toiletries. This means that they cannot have any drugs, alcohol, medication, weapons, money, watches, jewelry, or any other valuables. They also cannot have any pens, paper, writing implements, electronic devices, or anything that can be used to communicate or write messages.
The only items that are allowed in the house are those provided by Big Brother, such as food, drinks, furniture, appliances, games, and tasks. The housemates have to share everything in the house and cannot claim anything as their own.
No violence or intimidation
Another rule of Big Brother is that the housemates cannot engage in any violence or intimidation towards each other. This means that they cannot physically harm, threaten, bully, harass, or coerce anyone in the house. They also cannot use any abusive language, discrimination, or hate speech against anyone based on their race, gender, sexuality, religion, or any other personal characteristic.
The housemates have to respect each other and treat each other with dignity and kindness. They also have to follow the instructions of Big Brother and obey his authority. If they fail to do so, they may face punishments or ejections from the house.
No whispering or speaking in other languages
Another rule of Big Brother is that the housemates cannot whisper or speak in other languages inside the house. This means that they have to speak clearly and loudly enough for the microphones to pick up their voices. They also have to speak in the official language of the show (English), unless they are given permission by Big Brother to speak in another language for a task or a twist.
The reason for this rule is that Big Brother wants to capture everything that happens in the house and broadcast it to the viewers. The viewers have the right to know what the housemates are saying and doing at all times. The viewers also have the power to vote for their favorite or least favorite housemates and ultimately decide who wins the show.
No breaking anything in the house
Another rule of Big Brother is that the housemates cannot break anything in the house deliberately or recklessly. This means that they have to take care of the property and equipment in the house and not damage or destroy them. They also have to clean up after themselves and keep the house tidy and hygienic.
The reason for this rule is that Big Brother wants to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the housemates and the production crew. The housemates also have to pay for any damages they cause in the house out of their prize money if they win the show.
These are some of the main rules and regulations that the contestants have to follow inside the Big Brother house. There may be more rules that are specific to each season or each country where the show is aired. The rules may also change or be modified by Big Brother at any time as part of a twist or a surprise.
The new series of Big Brother will start on Sunday, October 8 at 9pm on ITV1, ITV2 and ITVX. The show will feature 16 new housemates who will compete for a life-changing cash prize and fame. The show will be hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best.
