How Apple is celebrating World AIDS Day with (RED)

Apple has been a long-time supporter of the fight against AIDS, partnering with (RED) since 2006 to raise funds and awareness for the Global Fund, which provides life-saving healthcare services to millions of people affected by HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. In the last three years, the funding has also been used to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 in these communities.

Apple has donated more than a quarter of a billion dollars to the Global Fund through its (PRODUCT)RED products and accessories, as well as special campaigns and events. Apple’s contribution has helped provide care and support services for over 11 million people and distribute over 197 million HIV tests. Apple’s support has also helped over 5 million HIV-positive mothers prevent passing the virus on to their babies.

One of the beneficiaries of Apple’s support is Mama Esther, a community health worker in Tanzania, who delivers compassion, care, and access to treatment to her rural community. She receives a monthly stipend from the Global Fund, which enables her to visit households and encourage people to get tested and treated for HIV. She also helps pregnant women access prenatal and delivery care. Thanks to Mama Esther, Neema, a pregnant woman who was HIV-positive, was able to start antiretroviral treatment and give birth to an HIV-free baby.
