The fashion house MM6 Maison Margiela and the outdoor brand Salomon have teamed up once again to create a new shoe collaboration for the Fall/Winter 2023 season. The collection features two styles: the Cross High and the Cross Low, which are inspired by trail running and hiking shoes.
The Cross High and the Cross Low
The Cross High and the Cross Low are the result of combining Salomon’s technical expertise and MM6 Maison Margiela’s avant-garde aesthetic. The shoes have a sleek and elongated silhouette, with a mesh inner slip-on shoe and a ripstop gaiter that covers the foot and adds volume. The shoes also feature Salomon’s Sensifit quick lace technology, which allows for easy adjustment and a snug fit.
The Cross High is a mid-cut shoe that nods to MM6 Maison Margiela’s signature “6” heel boot, with a revised heel unit that adds stability and comfort. The Cross Low is a low-cut shoe that has a chunky and high-grip rubber sole, ideal for outdoor adventures. Both styles come in five colorways: black, white, slate blue, bitter chocolate, and rose.
The Collaboration History
This is not the first time that MM6 Maison Margiela and Salomon have collaborated. The two brands have been working together since 2019, creating innovative footwear that blends fashion and function. Their previous collections include the XT-4 mules, the XT-6 sneakers, the RX Slide sandals, and the XT-15 backpack.
The collaboration reflects the shared vision of both brands to create products that can transition between different environments and occasions. As MM6 Maison Margiela said in a statement: “Our motivation was to create a shoe that could easily transition between cityscapes and the great outdoors — a single product that both maintained Salomon’s high-performance specifications and also resonated with MM6 Maison Margiela’s contemporary aesthetic.”
The Release Date and Availability
The new shoe collaboration will be available from November 11 at MM6 Maison Margiela’s stores, its website, and at select retailers worldwide. The shoes are expected to sell out fast, as they have been highly anticipated by fans of both brands since they debuted on the MM6 Maison Margiela Fall/Winter 2023 runway show in February.
The shoes are also part of a larger trend of gorpcore, which is the fusion of outdoor gear and high fashion. Gorpcore has been popularized by celebrities such as Rihanna, Kanye West, Bella Hadid, and Justin Bieber, who have been spotted wearing hiking boots, puffer jackets, fleece vests, and cargo pants.
