BTS singer Jungkook has made history by becoming the first male K-pop soloist to win a VMA award in a non-K-pop category. He bagged the Song Of The Summer award for his hit track Seven (feat Latto) at the 2023 Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Wednesday. The 25-year-old star also delighted his fans by posting a shirtless photo of himself on Weverse, a social media platform for BTS and their fandom ARMY.
Jungkook’s Seven Beats Beyonce, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift And Others
Jungkook released Seven in July this year, featuring American rapper Latto. The song is a catchy pop tune with elements of hip-hop and R&B. The music video also starred actor Han So-hee, who played Jungkook’s love interest. The song received rave reviews from critics and fans alike, and topped several charts worldwide.
The Song Of The Summer category at the VMAs had some tough contenders, including Beyonce (Cuff It), Billie Eilish (What Was I Made For from Barbie), Doja Cat (Paint the Town Red), Dua Lipa (Dance the Night from Barbie), Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice (Barbie World with Aqua from Barbie), Olivia Rodrigo (Vampire), SZA (Kill Bill), Taylor Swift ft. Ice Spice (Karma) and others. Jungkook managed to beat them all and claim the coveted trophy.

He also shared a video message on MTV’s official X account, where he thanked his collaborators Latto and Han So-hee, as well as his fellow BTS members and Big Hit Entertainment. He said, “I’m so grateful to everyone who worked hard on this project with me. Latto, you’re amazing. Han So-hee, you’re beautiful. My hyungs, you’re the best. Big Hit, thank you for everything. And of course, ARMY, you’re my everything. I love you all.”

Just before his big win, Jungkook surprised his fans by posting a shirtless photo of himself on Weverse. The black and white picture showed him standing with his back towards the camera in a gym. He flaunted his toned physique and his sleeve tattoo, which he had previously kept hidden from the public eye. He captioned the photo simply as “photogenic”.
The photo sent the ARMY into a meltdown, as they flooded the comment section with compliments and reactions. Some of them joked that they were about to faint or spit out their coffee after seeing the photo. Others praised him for his confidence and charisma. Some also referred to V’s statement that BTS’ chapter 2 is not about being shirtless, implying that Jungkook was breaking the rule.
