Google’s Pixel phones are known for their impressive cameras, smooth software, and timely updates. But the company has not revealed much about its next-generation flagship devices, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which are expected to launch in October 2023. However, a recent leak from Google itself has given us a sneak peek at the Pixel 8 Pro’s design and color.
A porcelain Pixel 8 Pro spotted on Google’s website
The Pixel 8 Pro made an accidental appearance on Google’s website, on a page promoting its subscriptions and services. The image was quickly removed, but not before some eagle-eyed users captured it and shared it online. The image shows the back of the phone in a porcelain color, which matches the rumored Pixel Fold’s shade. The phone also has a new rounded camera bar, which houses three primary cameras and a flash. The camera bar is different from the Pixel 7 Pro’s design, which had a pill-shaped module with a circular cutout for the telephoto lens.
The image also confirms the phone’s name as Pixel 8 Pro, as seen in the alt text of the picture. The porcelain color is one of the three options that Google is reportedly planning to offer for the Pixel 8 Pro, along with obsidian and a new blue shade. The obsidian color is expected to have a blacked-out camera bar, while the blue color could be darker than the Pixel 7a’s sea option.
What else do we know about the Pixel 8 Pro?
The Pixel 8 Pro is likely to be Google’s most powerful and premium phone yet, as it will feature the company’s own Tensor chip, which promises to deliver better performance, AI capabilities, and security. The phone is also rumored to have a flat display, unlike the previous Pro models that had curved screens. The display could measure 6.7 inches and support a 120Hz refresh rate, as well as an under-display fingerprint scanner.
The camera system of the Pixel 8 Pro is also expected to be upgraded, with a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 48MP telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom. The phone could also have a new body temperature sensor, as seen in a leaked internal video from Google. The sensor could be used to measure the user’s temperature or scan objects for their thermal properties.
The Pixel 8 Pro could also come with some exclusive features that are not available on the regular Pixel 8, such as wireless charging, water resistance, and stereo speakers. The phone could also have more RAM and storage options than the base model.
When will the Pixel 8 Pro launch?
Google has not announced an official launch date for the Pixel 8 series yet, but based on its previous release patterns, we can expect it to happen in early October 2023. The company usually holds an online event to unveil its new hardware products, such as phones, smart speakers, laptops, and earbuds. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro could be joined by other devices, such as the Pixel Fold, the Pixel Watch, and the Pixel Buds A2.
The pricing and availability of the Pixel 8 Pro are also unknown at this point, but we can assume that it will be more expensive than the Pixel 7 Pro, which started at $699 in the US. The phone could also be limited to certain markets, as Google has not been very consistent with its global distribution of its phones.
