The education minister, Datuk Seri Dr Radzi Jidin, has announced that the 2027 School Curriculum will introduce seven domains to provide a holistic and balanced education for students. The seven domains are:
- Language and communication
- Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
- Humanities and social sciences
- Arts and culture
- Physical and health education
- Life skills and entrepreneurship
- Values and ethics
The minister said that the new curriculum aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills and values that are relevant to the 21st century and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He added that the curriculum will also foster a culture of lifelong learning and innovation among students.
A flexible and integrated curriculum
The minister explained that the 2027 School Curriculum will adopt a flexible and integrated approach that allows students to learn across different domains and subjects. He said that the curriculum will offer various pathways and options for students to pursue their interests and talents.
He also said that the curriculum will incorporate the use of digital technology and online platforms to enhance the teaching and learning process. He said that the curriculum will leverage on the National Digital Education Roadmap (NDER) and the Malaysia Education Online (MEO) platform to provide quality and accessible education for all students.
A collaborative and inclusive curriculum
The minister stressed that the 2027 School Curriculum will promote a collaborative and inclusive culture among students, teachers, parents and stakeholders. He said that the curriculum will encourage students to work in teams, engage in project-based learning and participate in co-curricular activities.
He also said that the curriculum will cater to the diverse needs and abilities of students, including those with special educational needs (SEN), gifted and talented students, and students from different backgrounds and contexts. He said that the curriculum will provide appropriate support and intervention for students to achieve their full potential.
A consultative and participatory process
The minister revealed that the 2027 School Curriculum is the result of a consultative and participatory process that involved various stakeholders, such as academics, experts, practitioners, parents, students and civil society. He said that the process was guided by the National Education Philosophy, the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 and the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030.
He also said that the process was informed by the best practices and benchmarks from other countries, such as Finland, Singapore, Japan and Australia. He said that the process was conducted through various platforms, such as surveys, focus group discussions, workshops and town hall sessions.
He thanked all the stakeholders for their valuable input and feedback, and invited them to continue to support the implementation of the 2027 School Curriculum. He said that the curriculum will be piloted in selected schools in 2025, and rolled out nationwide in 2027.
