Cloward H2O Unveils Stunning Water Feature for Aarid Project in Riyadh

Cloward H2O, in collaboration with Cass Calder Architecture and EDSA, has unveiled a breathtaking water feature for the Aarid Project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This innovative development spans 3.3 hectares and integrates residential, commercial, educational, medical, and recreational spaces into a dynamic lifestyle destination. The centerpiece of this project is a meticulously designed water element that enhances the overall comfort and beauty of the development. This article explores the details of this remarkable water feature and its significance for the Aarid Project.

The water feature at the Aarid Project is a true masterpiece of aquatic design. Spanning over 18,000 square feet, it serves as the focal point of the retail complex. Inspired by elaborate canals, the feature boasts imposing two-story waterfalls at the entrance, 30-foot cascading water towers, a 6-foot diameter acrylic sphere, and unique seating oases within the water. These elements combine to create a tranquil and visually stunning atmosphere for visitors.

The design and engineering of this water feature were undertaken by Cloward H2O, Cass Calder Architecture, and EDSA. Their collaboration has resulted in a striking water element that not only adds elegance to the development but also helps mitigate the region’s hot and arid climate. The water feature naturally cools the area, providing a refreshing escape for residents and visitors alike.

Balancing Luxury and Sustainability

One of the key challenges in introducing such a large water feature in a dry environment is water conservation. The project team set out on an ambitious mission to achieve a harmonious balance between luxury and sustainability. To minimize waste and maximize the use of water resources, a well-planned water recycling system collects and filters runoff and surplus water. Modern, energy-efficient pumps and filtration systems ensure effective water circulation and conservation.

In addition to the water recycling system, the project incorporates native, drought-resistant plant species in its landscaping. This approach aligns with the sustainability objectives of the Aarid Project and reduces water usage. Rainwater harvesting systems further support conservation efforts by ensuring that every drop is utilized for the benefit of the development as a whole.

Engineering Excellence

The engineering solutions implemented in the Aarid Project’s water feature demonstrate Cloward H2O’s rigorous approach to aquatic design. With a water capacity of about 900 cubic meters, the canal is designed to maintain high standards of water quality suitable for leisure activities. The system’s carefully positioned surface returns and drains help with circulation and the removal of waste and pollutants.

High-quality pumps, particularly Herborner Vertical pumps (Series X), with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and high-end efficiency motors, minimize the amount of space needed for mechanical equipment and maximize operating power requirements. These engineering solutions ensure that the water feature operates efficiently and sustainably, providing a beautiful and functional addition to the Aarid Project.
