Angelina Jolie Launches Her First Fashion Collection with Chloé

Angelina Jolie, the renowned actress and humanitarian, has recently announced her new fashion venture, Atelier Jolie, a collective where everyone can create. The project aims to provide tailoring and upcycling services, a gallery space for local artisans, and a café run in partnership with refugee organizations. The atelier is housed in the iconic 57 Great Jones, a studio space that was once owned by Andy Warhol and later shared by Jean-Michel Basquiat.

The first collection from Atelier Jolie is a collaboration with Chloé, the French luxury brand that is known for its feminine and bohemian style. The collection was designed by Jolie and Gabriela Hearst, the former creative director of Chloé, who left the brand earlier this year. The collection will be available at Chloé boutiques and online beginning January 2024.

A Collection Inspired by Jolie’s Personal Style and Values

The Chloé x Atelier Jolie collection features a range of garments that reflect Jolie’s personal style and values. The collection includes neutral and basic pieces, such as a tan camisole with a scalloped neckline, a black tailored blazer, a white suit vest, and a long, dark velvet cloak. One garment, a white tank top, was inspired by an embroidered cotton dress Jolie wore as a child and still wears as a shirt to this day.

The collection also showcases Jolie’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. The garments are made with at least 80 percent lower-impact materials, such as organic silk, organic crepe de chine, wool, and deadstock fabrics. The collection was also created in partnership with Akanjo, a World Fair Trade Organization that trains and promotes craftsmanship in Madagascar, as well as La Fabrique Nomade, a program that supports refugee and migrant artisans in France.

Jolie chose to collaborate with Chloé because of its status as one of the first luxury brands to be a certified B Corp, which means it meets the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. Jolie said, “It was important to me to work with Chloé, one of the first luxury brands to be a B Corp.” She also praised Hearst for her vision and leadership in making Chloé more sustainable and inclusive.

A Preview of the Collection in Vogue

The first images of the collection were revealed in the November issue of Vogue magazine, where Jolie graced the cover wearing a white dress from the collaboration. The photos were taken by Zoë Ghertner, a photographer who has worked with brands like Celine, Dior, and Louis Vuitton. The images showcase the elegant and effortless style of the collection, as well as the craftsmanship and quality of the materials.

In the accompanying interview, Jolie opened up about her motivation for launching Atelier Jolie and how it relates to her personal journey. She said that she wanted to create a space where people can express themselves creatively and connect with each other. She also said that she wanted to explore the softer side of fashion, after going through some difficult experiences in her life. She said, “Sometimes the way you dress says, ‘Don’t mess with me—I’ve got my armor on.’ After I went through something where I was hurt, I had a therapist ask if I would try wearing a flowing garment. Sounds silly, but I assumed that pants and boots projected a ‘tougher’ look, a stronger me. But was I strong enough to be soft?”

The Chloé x Atelier Jolie collection is expected to be a hit among fashion lovers who appreciate Jolie’s style and values. The collection will also include a charitable component to support women and others in need. Jolie said that she hopes that the collection will inspire people to create their own fashion and express their individuality.
